Position Description (Peace River office)
Reporting to the Project Engineer, you will be responsible for inspection, examination, on-site work acceptance and preparation of report for work progress. You will ensure that construction work is performed in accordance with the contract plans, specifications, applicable codes and safety regulations. You will be responsible for performing field level survey work in the municipal infrastructure and land development sector. Your duties will include maintaining neat and accurate field notes, managing and analysing survey data, completing design/drafting and preparing progress payments. The position is full time.
Accountabilities
With Project Engineer / Manager assistance;
Understand and interpret the requirements and details of the contract drawings and specifications
Understand the contractor's obligations and the client's responsibilities under the contract
Inspect the work according to the required established frequency and prepare required and appropriate field notes and logs
Identify and act on any site, contractual and regulatory infractions (for safety, security, operational efficiency, customer convenience, etc.)
Assist with the administration of the construction contracts; monitoring the constructed product for quality assurance
Act as a liaison between the contractor, internal staff, utility companies, local municipalities, etc. as required
Certain assignments may require that you work outside of normal work hours
Manage and perform field survey work with the help of an Assistant
Liaise with Project Managers, Engineers and Inspectors to coordinate field survey work, to review and manage project scope, schedules, priorities and survey methodology
Act as a company representative, liaising directly with client field representatives and land owners
Prepare and communicate field notes, sketches, checklists and field grades
Provide guidance and mentorship to Survey Assistants working with you
Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, more efficient field processes and procedures
Actively participate in and proactively support the Velocity Safety Program.
Assist the Project Manager / Engineer in all aspects of office and field work including: travelling to/from job sites, operation of level survey equipment, total station equipment and GPS RTK equipment and tools, field observations and record keeping
Organize and maintain office area, equipment and vehicle
General office tasks and project organization (Familiarity with Civil 3D and Office 365 would be an asset)
Qualifications
Our successful candidate will have completed a post secondary program in a relevant engineering / technology / survey discipline. A candidate without post-secondary education but with adequate experience will be considered.
In addition, you will also:
Have a minimum 4 years of Field Engineering experience
Must have knowledge of construction survey and inspection principles, practices and techniques, as well as knowledge of construction products, materials and equipment
Have the ability to coordinate with and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment
Be familiar with the operation of automatic levels, total station and GPS RTK equipment
Be familiar with Word, Excel and AutoCAD and / or Civil 30
Have an aptitude for delivering projects on time and within budget
Possess sound judgement; strong organizational, administrative, observational and problem solving skills; effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Have a desire to be a strong team player and contributor in a dynamic, quality and focused organization
Be knowledgeable of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and application to engineering and construction projects. Have, or will receive, training in First Aid, CSTS and other safety training programs
Have a valid driver's license and must provide a driver's abstract
Have a reliable vehicle & will be financially compensated as per company policy
Be willing to travel and work away from the home base of operations in Grande Prairie as projects dictate
Be physically fit and satisfy drug & alcohol screening requirements as necessary
Work hours dictated by Contractor schedules including overtime and weekend work as required
