Key Responsibilities:
Peer Mentoring & Support:
Provide group peer support to women entering the pre-treatment phase of addiction recovery.
Share personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and demonstrate that recovery is possible.
Offer emotional support, encouragement, and practical advice on navigating early recovery challenges.
Assist clients in identifying their strengths and building confidence in their ability to succeed in recovery.
Assist residents with life skills such as household chores, cooking, and other daily living skills.
Facilitate Engagement:
Help clients understand the pre-treatment process, explaining program expectations and available resources.
Guide individuals in connecting with necessary treatment services.
Engage with clients to increase their motivation and readiness for treatment.
Advocacy & Resource Navigation:
Help individuals access healthcare and other essential social services.
Act as an advocate for clients, ensuring they have the resources needed for their recovery journey.
Provide information about 12-step programs, support groups, and other recovery-related events.
Collaborative Teamwork:
Work closely with management, and other team members such as volunteers to ensure care for clients.
Attend regular team meetings to provide updates on client progress and assist in treatment planning.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress in accordance with facility policies and applicable laws.
Report any significant changes in a client's behavior or condition to the appropriate team members.
Household Management:
Ensure a clean and organized living environment.
Oversee household chores and responsibilities.
Manage the household budget and supplies.
Coordinate meal planning and preparation.
Prepare meals for residents.
Working Conditions:
Work in a residential setting.
Shifts are 12 hours in duration - day/night.
Potential exposure to challenging behaviors.
Qualifications:
Required:
Lived experience with addiction recovery (preferably at least 2 years in sustained recovery).
Completion of a Peer Support Specialist certification program is an asset.
Clean driving abstract G licence required.
Strong communication and active listening skills.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries while providing empathetic, non-judgmental support.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Knowledge of addiction recovery programs, including 12-step, SMART Recovery, and other evidence-based modalities.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect clients' privacy.
Police Vulnerable Sector check is required.
Resilient with the ability to handle challenging situations with a calm and compassionate approach.
Lifeguard certification is an asset.
Preferred:
Previous experience working in addiction treatment settings or peer support roles.
Knowledge of local community resources and support services.
First Aid certification is an asset.
Courses or experience in human trafficking are an asset.
