Director of Accounting and Internal Controls

Blueprint Condominium Management Inc., a leader in condominium management, is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Director of Accounting and Internal Controls to lead our accounting department through a period of realignment and growth. Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management
Provide strategic leadership to accounting staff, both in-house and overseas, ensuring alignment with company goals.
Mentor and manage team members, fostering an environment of accountability, collaboration, and professional development.
Establish clear goals and performance expectations, conducting regular reviews to track progress and promote growth.
Build and maintain communication channels to enhance efficiency and alignment between domestic and international teams.
Internal Controls and Compliance
Design, implement, and oversee robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
Conduct regular evaluations of financial processes, identifying gaps and reinforcing compliance with industry standards, GAAP, RECA (Real Estate Council of Alberta) requirements , and other regulatory frameworks.
Ensure compliance with RECA standards by integrating applicable rules into internal processes and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of any changes or updates to requirements.
Lead internal audits, providing actionable solutions to mitigate risks and improve control environments.
Issue Resolution
Proactively identify and diagnose operational or financial discrepancies, collaborating with relevant departments for resolution.
Leverage strong problem-solving skills to address escalated accounting issues in a timely and efficient manner.
Act as a trusted advisor for complex financial questions, ensuring all procedures adhere to best practices.
Process Improvement
Update and maintain company work instructions, ensuring documentation reflects best practices and current operational needs.
Review and optimize accounting workflows to enhance accuracy, speed, and efficiency.
Leverage technology and software solutions to modernize reporting processes and streamline operations.
Financial Oversight
Oversee the preparation and review of financial reports, delivering insights to senior management to guide business decisions.
Monitor cash flow, bank reconciliations, and capital budgeting activities.
Perform variance analysis and provide actionable recommendations for performance improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree or MBA preferred).
CPA certification required; CMA certification is a plus.
A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 5 years in a senior management capacity.
Proven experience in property management, real estate, or a similar industry is highly desirable.
Exceptional leadership skills, with a track record of managing diverse, geographically dispersed teams.
Strong knowledge of internal controls, compliance, and process improvement frameworks.
Advanced proficiency in accounting software, including Condo Manager , Yardi, QuickBooks, or similar tools.
Soft Skills
Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the finesse to manage relationships across multiple levels, particularly with the controller and senior executives.
Adaptability and a calm, solution-oriented approach to navigating change and challenges.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $70,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
