Position Summary:
Galaxy Freightline Inc. is seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Transportation Operations Manager to oversee and optimize all aspects of our LTL (Less-than-Truckload) and FTL (Full-Truckload) freight operations. This leadership role is critical in ensuring timely, compliant, and cost-effective transportation services across our regional and cross-border operations.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of dispatching, fleet management, routing optimization, and transportation compliance, with strong operational and analytical capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Oversight:
Manage day-to-day transportation activities including dispatch, routing, trip planning, and on-time delivery across LTL and FTL segments.
Coordinate operations across multiple terminals and yards to ensure efficiency and service quality.
Lead real-time issue resolution related to shipments, driver delays, equipment failure, or customer escalations.
2. Team Leadership:
Supervise and mentor dispatchers, fleet coordinators, and drivers.
Set performance targets and conduct performance reviews.
Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
3. Compliance & Safety:
Ensure full compliance with all federal, provincial/state, and cross-border transportation regulations (e.g., DOT, FMCSA, CVOR).
Monitor and enforce ELD usage, Hours of Service (HOS), and safety protocols.
Maintain proper documentation and audit readiness.
4. Technology & Systems:
Oversee the use of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) for load planning, dispatching, and reporting.
Utilize telematics, GPS, and ELD systems to monitor fleet operations.
Identify system gaps and lead digital process improvements.
5. KPI Tracking & Reporting:
Track key performance indicators such as on-time delivery, cost per mile, empty miles, load capacity utilization, and driver productivity.
Generate operational reports for executive review.
Use data to identify bottlenecks and drive decision-making.
6. Customer Coordination:
Work closely with customer service, brokerage, and sales teams to ensure service excellence.
Address customer inquiries related to freight movement, delivery timelines, and special service requests.
7. Cost & Resource Management:
Monitor transportation budgets and reduce operating costs without compromising service.
Oversee asset utilization, fuel management, and maintenance schedules in collaboration with the fleet department.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5-10 years of progressive experience in transportation or freight operations.
Proven leadership experience in a high-volume dispatch and fleet environment.
Strong understanding of cross-border freight, LTL/FTL logistics, and regulatory compliance.
Proficiency in TMS platforms , ELD systems, and fleet tracking tools.
Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Exceptional communication, time management, and conflict resolution abilities.
Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, or a related field is preferred.
Preferred Skills & Tools:
Experience with systems like Loadlink, Fleet Manager, Samsara, or equivalent.
Working knowledge of fuel surcharge structures and freight cost optimization.
Familiarity with data tools such as Excel, CRM, or fleet analytics dashboards.
