Community Health Nurse for McLeod Lake Indian Band

McLeod Lake is located 150km north of Prince George and 50km south of Mackenzie, BC. The Tse'khene is a south westerly extension of the Athapascan speaking people of northern Canada. McLeod Lake Band Members are a nomadic hunting people who controlled the basins of the Parsnip and Finley Rivers and the valley of the Peace River in British Columbia. Living on the edge of the Rocky Mountains, we are the "_People of the Rocks_".

McLeod Lake Indian Band (MLIB) is seeking a Community Health Nurse to join their Health Team in McLeod Lake, B.C. The Community Health Nurse will support the following programs: Communicable Disease Control, Maternal/Child health, Home and Community Care; while providing public health nursing to the Community. An employer-paid daily commuter from Prince George or Mackenzie B.C. is available for transportation.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide nursing and public health services to clients in a clinical setting, in the community or in the client's home
Provide information reviews and advice to clients and family members regarding treatment and care procedures
Work with Community members to promote healthy living and the restoration of health through the prevention of disease, community awareness programming, counselling and direct nursing care
Initiate treatment including health care management and therapeutic interventions in accordance with nursing statutory and regulatory standards, limits, and conditions, and employer policies and procedures
Provide client assessments, post-surgical care, wound care, palliative care, chronic disease management, assist with mental health and substance disorders, and medication administration
Develop and implement a plan of care in cooperation with client/family/caregivers and relevant professionals, to achieve desired care needs and outcomes
Develop or assist in the development and implementation of health care clinics, client groups, workshops, conferences, meetings, etc.
Maintain reporting and record systems in accordance with accepted standards to ensure legal and data requirements are met
Provide confidential care services and cultural safety in a respectful and responsive manner
Advocates on behalf of the client in external healthcare settings
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education and Experience

Registered Nurse (RN) License preferred with a minimum 2-3 years of experience
Current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives
Current CPR Course
Valid Class 5 Driver's license
Experience providing culturally sensitive and supportive client-focused nursing care
Knowledgeable regarding Indigenous health challenges and mental and substance disorders
Experience maintaining reports, documents, client records and health planning
Ability to work without direct supervision in a variety of clinical settings

Salary is negotiable based on experience.
