Job Summary

The scope of practice for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers is the use of soundwaves for diagnostic ultrasound for the purpose diagnostic procedures, for diagnostic ultrasound for the purpose of diagnostic procedures, the evaluation of images and data related to the procedures, and the assessment of individual patients before, during and after procedures

Responsibilities

Patient Examination:

Ensure appropriate delegations (when required), and appropriate knowledge, skills and judgement are in place for all examinations

Ensure appropriate signage restricting access to patient exam room is posted.

Chaperone Policy

Ensure correct patient, procedure and laterality identification is confirmed.

Ensure patient consent is obtained prior to start of procedure.

Stop procedure at any time if patient withdraws consent and document reason n technologist worksheet.

Technologist Documentation policy including the documentation of technical impressions as per protocols.

Latex policy

Unexpected and Critical Findings policy.

Addition of Procedures policy

Ensure that patient images display patient name, MRN, case number, procedure date, type of procedure

Ensure DMS identity is displayed on each patient image.

Transvaginal Ultrasounds

Document transducer ID number in comments section of patient case in RIS as per Medical Device Reprocessing policy

Nuchal Translucency Ultrasounds

RIS-PACS

Ensure all technical documentation is scanned into correct patient case in the RIS

Ensure completion of case in RIS and presence of all images in PACS.

RIS-PACS Error policy.

Experience

Membership in good standing with College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO)
Generalist Sonographer (CRGS)
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) - AB (Abdomen), BR (Breast), OB/GYN (ARDMS) an asset
Experience with RIS-PACS systems
Experience with Office 365.
Previous experience as a Sonographer is preferred but not mandatory
Proficiency in medical terminology is essential for effective communication within the healthcare environment.
Strong interpersonal skills to interact compassionately with patients and their families.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced setting.
