Akash Broadcasting Inc. is the parent company of a new FM radio station in the Lower Mainland British Columbia and Edmonton Alberta airing on CJCN 91.5 Connect FM & CKER 101.7 Connect FM. RESPONSIBILITIES
Follow developing news stories
Translating & reading news stories for hourly news bulletins
Posting news stories on website and other social media platforms
Go out in the field and report news from events
Generate, pitch and pursue strong, creative story ideas
Do live cut-ins and send reports for the newscasts
Post news updates to social media
Produce news based features for broadcast
Stay abreast with current affairs and discuss story ideas with the News Team
Be available at odd hours to report news whenever need be
Contribute to shows and other original media productions whenever required to do so
Be available for meetings that may be called by the News Director from time to time
Capture photos and videos from the events for website and social media
Be available to do voiceovers for commercials, promotions etc.whenever required to do so

QUALIFICATIONS
University degree or equivalent with a minimum of three years relevant experience preferred
Must be fluent in Punjabi, both reading and writing
Fluency in English languages is an asset
Strong local connection in communities in Metro Vancouver and familiarity with the culture, needs and sensibilities of our listeners.
Experience writing and conducting in-person interviews
An ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, creative story ideas with an emphasis on content for communities of South Asian heritages
Working knowledge of digital news including social media
Flexibility with hours of work and willingness to learn
Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong team player
Ability to generate original, enterprise journalism
High energy and enthusiasm towards journalism
