Director

The Director serves as the operational and strategic lead responsible for driving its mission to grow agriculture through advocacy, education, events, and community initiatives.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, this role provides direction and oversight across daily operations, board governance, financial management, and stakeholder engagement. The Senior Administrator acts as the key connector between the Board, shareholders, partners, and the wider community.

This role calls for a strategic thinker and excellent communicator who is passionate about relationship building. The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, innovative, and able to manage multiple priorities.

This position is located in the Lethbridge area.

Responsibilities:

Provide administrative and strategic support to the Board of Directors, including the preparation of meeting packages, briefing materials, and accurate records of decisions and follow-ups
Coordinate and manage board governance activities, including the Annual General Meeting, while maintaining compliance with organizational by-laws and governance standards
Maintain a well-organized and accessible repository of governance documents, policies, and historical records to support continuity and informed decision-making
Support the onboarding and orientation of new Board members to ensure a consistent understanding of governance practices, values, and strategic direction
Ensure day-to-day organizational operations are aligned with the Board's direction, mandate, and broader community expectations
Lead the design and delivery of agricultural programs, events, and community initiatives that reflect the mission, amplify its values, and respond to the unique priorities
Collaborate with the not-for-profit delivery partner to ensure programs are co-created, well-executed, and accessible, fostering a shared commitment to community impact
Build and manage a strategic membership and shareholder engagement approach that deepens relationships, encourages active participation, and reflects the diverse voices of the region
Serve as a visible and trusted representative at public events, sector forums, and community gatherings, championing agricultural leadership, rural vitality, and collaborative growth
Provide financial oversight, including budget development, expense tracking, and preparation of clear, timely reports for the Board and funding partners
Administer grant funding processes and reporting requirements for the Government of Alberta and other funders, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Design and implement revenue-generating initiatives, including raffles, casino events, and donor engagement, to support long-term sustainability
Monitor expenditures and guide financial decision-making in alignment with organizational priorities and funding guidelines
Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including funders, government agencies, community leaders, and agricultural partners
Advocate to funders, stakeholders, partners, government, and community members, reinforcing the organization's visibility and value across the region
Serve as the primary liaison between the not-for-profit partner to coordinate shared priorities and program delivery
Support the recruitment, coordination, and recognition of volunteers to assist with events and initiatives
Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans that reflect the evolving needs
Monitor key performance indicators and impact measures to support reporting, storytelling, and long-range planning
Identify opportunities for innovation, continuous improvement, and emerging trends that align with the mission and strategic direction
Make day-to-day operational decisions that align with the strategic direction, organizational values, and policies set by the Board of Directors
Determine resource, program, and volunteer needs to ensure continuity of services and effective delivery of events and initiatives
Be the representative in conversations with community partners, vendors, funders, and the public, ensuring the organization's interests are communicated professionally and consistently
Use sound judgment in managing sensitive or complex issues, identifying when to escalate matters to the Board or seek input from legal counsel as appropriate

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or diploma in business administration, nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in administrative leadership, board governance support, or nonprofit/association management
Demonstrated experience supporting or working closely with a governance body such as a board of directors
Strong understanding of organizational operations, risk management, and stakeholder communication
Knowledge of the agricultural sector and not-for-profit operations in a rural or community-based setting
Proven ability to work independently with sound judgment, discretion, and a high degree of professionalism
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing reports, board materials, and correspondence
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfort using digital communication tools and cloud-based file management systems
Experience supporting governance processes and liaising with legal counsel considered an asset
Familiarity with compliance reporting, recordkeeping best practices, and volunteer or community engagement coordination
Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check for the duration of employment
