Senior Human Resources Business Partner

The Senior Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a strategic advisor and trusted partner to departments, delivering comprehensive support across key People & Culture functions. With a strong emphasis on manager/employee relations, union relationships, talent management and organizational effectiveness. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on support to foster a high-performing, inclusive, and compliant workplace.

As a seasoned generalist, the SR HRBP drives proactive and integrated HR strategies that align with corporate priorities, supports leadership development, and contributes to a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

_ General HR Support & Leadership Partnership _

Provide day-to-day HR consultation to managers and employees on policies, procedures, and HR best practices
Mentor Talent Acquisition Specialists in recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies to attract and retain high-quality talent
Champion employee engagement efforts and promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture
Collaborate with People & Culture colleagues on key initiatives and cross-functional projects that enhance organizational capacity
Provide support and lead as assigned) in specific program areas (i.e. compensation, workplace resolution, benefits administration, and P&C systems)

_ Talent Management & Organizational Effectiveness _

Partner with department leaders to design and implement workforce planning, succession strategies, and career development frameworks
Lead and enhance performance management processes, including goal setting, feedback mechanisms, and employee development planning
Assess training needs and coordinate development programs to strengthen organizational and individual capabilities
Advise on change management initiatives to support leadership communication and maintain employee engagement during periods of transition
Monitor and analyze workforce trends, using data-driven insights to inform HR strategy and continuous improvement

_ Labour & Union Relations _

Serve as a key contributor to the cross-functional bargaining team; support the development, negotiation, and implementation of collective agreements
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with union representatives to ensure respectful, solution-focused labour relations
Lead communication strategy related to labour negotiations to ensure clarity, transparency, and employee trust
Provide expert advice on business strategies, past practices, organizational culture, and corporate policies
Oversee the post-bargaining implementation of collective agreements, ensuring smooth rollout and proactive issue resolution
Interpret and administer collective agreements, offering guidance on grievance resolution and contract compliance
Investigate workplace concerns and disputes, ensuring alignment with employment legislation and organizational policies
Support managers through peer coaching and feedback to senior management on effective communication, performance management, conflict resolution, and working collaboratively with unionized employees

_ Corporate Policy & Compliance _

Ensure HR practices are aligned with municipal bylaws, provincial employment legislation, and collective agreements
Provide expertise on workplace accommodation, return-to-work plans, and occupational health and safety compliance
Maintain accurate and confidential HR records, ensuring alignment with reporting and audit requirements and future litigation risks

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in human resources is preferred, other related post-secondary fields may be considered
Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation preferred
7-10 years of progressive HR experience, with a focus on labour relations and talent management/generalist experience
Experience working in a unionized environment within municipal government or the broader public sector is required
Strong knowledge of employment legislation, collective agreements, and dispute resolution processes
Proven ability to partner with leadership to drive organizational change and workforce effectiveness
Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
Ability to analyze HR metrics and translate insights into actionable strategies
Effective oral and written communication skills that demonstrate an ability to influence, coach and support others
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a part of a team
Good time management and organizational skills, including ability to multi-task
Strong customer service focus

Pay: $112,000.00-$140,000.00 per year

Ability to commute/relocate:
Lethbridge, AB T1J 0P6: reliably commute or be willing to relocate with an employer-provided relocation package (required)
