I. Job Summary:

The individual is responsible for repairing and installing water lines, sewer lines, and water meters. Provide service to broke water and sewer lines. Install and repair manholes. Maintains area around pumps stations and pipelines. Tap main water line and provide water service to individual meters. Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment onto and from trucks by hand. Cuts brush and clears ground around pipe. Assist in carrying and laying of main lines and service precipitates such as catch basins and grit chamber using shovel, rake, and hand pumps. Lubricates equipment. Opens and closes gates according to gates readings or warning lights on equipment and other duties assigned. Report to supervisor on areas worked as directed. Individual will be performing other assigned duties by supervisor/department head when needed.

II. Education/Employment Requirements:

a) High school diploma or GED preferred

b) Must have oral and written communication skills in English to at least the 9th grade level (to include correct spelling).

c) 5 years' experience in construction, preferred, or the ability to learn the job through on-the-job training.

d) Knowledge of proper sequence of activities required to perform the job.

III. Employment Requirements

a) Applicant will be subject of a complete background investigation, incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the application rejection from consideration.

b) B) Applicant must have a valid class "5" CDL drivers license moving traffic violations within the past (2) years.

c) Applicant must take and pass a drug, physical if requested by the employer.

d) Applicant must meet all other department and company employment standards.

i) Skills/Abilities:

j) Must be able to understand water distribution and wastewater collection maps and construction drawings

k) Must have mechanical aptitude

l) Must be capable of reporting (written and verbal) on WD/WWC systems conditions or problems

m) Must be capable of issuing and accurately comprehending written/oral information and instructions

n) Must be tactful and courteous with the public

o) Must be reliable and capable of performing routine work with a minimum of supervision

p) Must possess and maintain a valid Class "5" Alberta Driver's License.

q) Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation

r) Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

s) Ability to follow verbal instructions that require individual thought to complete the task or a series of tasks.

t) Ability to make decisions based on available data/criteria, laws and regulations, or Company policy.

V. Essential Job Functions

a) Install and or repair water and sewer lines as assigned or directed.

b) Tap main water line as directed or assigned.

c) Cleans grounds around water or sewer lines using pick, shovel, wheelbarrow, and ax as scheduled or assigned.

d) Cleans surface of pipes with scrapers and steel brushes as directed or assigned.

e) Loads and unloads tools and equipment onto and from truck as directed.

f) Push/pull with approximately 65 pounds of force to use wheelbarrow.

g) Pick up trash or debris from grounds as scheduled or assigned.

h) Repair and maintain tools and equipment.

i) Ability to use mobile devices and apps to communicate with the office.

j) Ability to enforce strong safety ethics.

k) Ability to follow and implement Company policies and Procedures.

VI. Manual Dexterity

Fine and gross hand manipulation is required to perform job functions as Pipe Layer Laborer. Fine finger dexterity is required to grip tools to lay pipes.

Applicant MUST have the following:

Clear understanding and knowledge of Apps and Mobile usage.
Credentials - Must hold a valid drivers license; with a clean abstract, Fall Protection, Ground Disturbance, Standard First Aid, CSTS, H2S Alive, WHMIS are required.
Experience: Minimum 5 years' experience. Must have; water and sewer experience to be considered for this position.
