We are seeking an experienced Dispatcher to join our general freight operations team. This role is critical to the efficient scheduling and movement of trucks, drivers, and equipment across regional and cross-border routes. The Dispatcher will ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of freight while maintaining strong communication with drivers, clients, and internal departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Schedule and dispatch drivers, equipment, and trucks to various locations based on customer requirements and load availability.
Monitor job progress, truck status, and driver availability to adjust schedules and ensure timely delivery.
Maintain accurate records of job assignments, driver hours, load documentation, and equipment movement.
Communicate effectively and professionally with drivers, customers, operations, and field personnel.
Respond promptly to unexpected delays, route changes, emergencies, and equipment issues.
Review driver documents including logs, timesheets, and load sheets for accuracy and completeness.
Approve driver billable and payable hours under company policies and job documentation.
Utilize dispatching and reporting software to manage, track, and report freight activity.
Monitor freight movements to ensure on-time performance and address any delays or discrepancies proactively.
Coordinate with third-party carriers and vendors as needed to support logistics and transportation needs.
Support inventory tracking, load planning, and documentation for outbound and inbound shipments.
Maintain compliance with company policies, safety protocols, and all applicable transportation regulations.
Collaborate with other dispatchers, supervisors, and the management team to optimize routing and resource allocation.
Deliver high-quality customer service and act as the main point of contact for drivers during routes.
Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support during evenings, weekends, or holidays as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of dispatching experience in general freight or transportation industry.
Strong knowledge of cross-border regulations and documentation (Canada/US).
Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with constantly changing priorities.
Solid understanding of Hours of Service (HOS), Weights and Dimensions, and transportation compliance across multiple provinces and states.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to maintain professionalism in all interactions.
High proficiency in dispatching software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Strong problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills.
Experience with digital tools and ELD systems considered an asset.
Demonstrated time management and priority-setting skills.
Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with team members, drivers, clients, and external partners.
Must be highly organized, adaptable, and detail-oriented.
Flexible availability for on-call duties, including evenings or weekends as required.
Pay will be based on experience. Starting range $30.00
