Position Summary
The Enhanced Home Visitor is responsible for the implementation of the Enhanced Home Visiting (EHV) program in accordance with the guiding principles of the provincial EHV program and the mandate and guiding principles of the Kids First Association. This is accomplished through the implementation of the Great Kids Inc. Curriculum. As a tri-county staff team member, the Enhanced Home Visitor participates in the county and tri-county staff relationships, problem-solving and ongoing program-based relationships. They work within the organization's guidelines, policies and mission and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Program Delivery
Responsible for the implementation of all activities of the Enhanced Home Visiting (EHV) program as assigned
Develop trusting relationships with families
Provides information about community resources and activities, early childhood development, childcare options, parenting and other related topics
Helps parents to access required or desired resources within their communities
Encourages and supports parents to become more self-sufficient
Promotes good problem-solving skills and coping techniques within families
Responds to parenting questions and concerns
Helps families access appropriate prenatal and postnatal care
Assists families in creating home environments that encourage healthy child development by planning and demonstrating interactive activities
Consults with the appropriate Supervisor and, in their absence, the Executive Director regarding situations that require more intensive support
2. Professional Development
Participates in professional development opportunities as requested by self (with approval) or management
May attend community committee meetings, working group meetings or other community-based meetings or consultations with the approval of a Supervisor or Executive Director
3. Administrative
Maintains and submits accurate records and statistics such as mileage, expense claims, program admission forms, logs and other documentation/databases as necessary for the Enhanced Home Visiting program.
Adheres and remains familiar with the policies and procedures and the occupational health and safety requirements of the organization
Supports the mission, vision and philosophy of the organization as detailed in the policy and procedures manual
Submits fully completed monthly staff reports and bi-weekly time sheets
Answers and responds to telephone calls, as required
Manages own correspondence, including maintaining an appropriate filing system for own work-related documents.
Ensures that outgoing correspondence receives approval prior to its release
Shares in the upkeep of common office areas and ensures that own office area is maintained in an orderly and safe fashion
4. Evaluation
Ensures that program-level evaluations are conducted during the last session of each program or once annually for the ongoing play group type programs (if applicable)
Ensures that program-level evaluations are collected and submitted as a regular attachment to their monthly staff reports (if applicable)
Works with the Executive Director and Supervisor to meet the evaluation requirements of the organization and/or specific funding bodies.

6. Other
Promotes Kids First Association and their Family Resource Centres
Adhers to the mandate, mission statement, policies, and procedures of Kids First Association.
Promotes and adhers to the guiding principles of the Enhanced Home Visiting Program
Responsible for maintaining good working relationships and communication among all staff associated with the organization
Respects the participants who use the centres and ongoing collaboration and consultation with the families to ensure Kids First is continuing to meet the needs of the community.
Qualifications
High School Diploma and Some Post Secondary Education
Previous experience working/interacting with families and/or with young children
Additional training in early childhood development would be an asset
Strong problem-solving and group work leadership skills
Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Sound computer skills
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to work flexible hours
Access to reliable transportation
(Family ) Enhanced Home Visitor(s )will be required to complete core training which will include, but is not limited to:
Parenting skills
Family goals setting
Professional boundaries and limits
Healthy child development
Family -centered, strengths-based approach, trauma informed care

Enhanced Home Visiting Program
The objectives of the EHV program are to:
1. Enable pregnant women, their partners and their families to achieve a healthy pregnancy, optimal birth outcome and positive adaptation to parenting;
2. Promote the optimal level of physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of all children in Nova Scotia;
3. Enhance the capacity of parents to support healthy child development;
4. Enhance the capacity of communities to support healthy childhood development; and
5. Contribute to a coordinated, effective system of child development services and support for children and their families.
Goals and Objectives - Kids First Association
The Kids First Association aims to provide programs/services to families at risk in our communities. Families at risk include those that are low income, socially and/or geographically isolated and those in abusive situations.
The objectives of the Association are:
To provide children in Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough counties with the opportunity to enjoy developmental, recreational and educational activities they would not otherwise enjoy.
To assist parents in creating a healthy, nurturing home environment for themselves and their children.
Provide support and programs to pre-natal and postnatal moms and babies.
To develop resource centers and outreach programs as needed to deliver services.
To have the centers and their activities developed and maintained by the individuals and communities utilizing the services.
To utilize external resources in the ongoing program development and implementation
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $18.00-$21.00 per hour
