The successful candidate for this Accounting Technician role will be a great communicator, well organized, be a self-starter and have a minimum of five years experience.
Job Overview
Provide high quality and timely services to a portfolio of clients and internal staff
Serve small to medium sized companies in a broad range of industries on a variety of engagements including notice to reader.
Prepare corporate and personal tax returns
Manage concurrent engagements effectively, based on schedules and client requirements
Ensuring client relationships, quality of work and deadline expectations are met
Skills, Experience & Attributes
Bookkeeping (using QuickBooks Online)
Payroll
T2 / T1 preparation and review (minimum three years experience, beyond simply preparing your own or family returns)
Continues to develop knowledge of the Income Tax Act relevant to client work
Experience working with accounting and tax software is essential (CaseWare & Profile)
Experience in financial statement preparation-primarily Notice to Reader statements
Excellent computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to problem solve, attention to detail and adhere to internal quality standards
Act with honesty and integrity, demonstrate ethics and respect for others throughout all aspects of work

The primary focus of this role is year-end financial reporting and T1 preparation. Bookkeeping and payroll experience is very important, however a successful candidate MUST be able to comfortably review a T1 tax return with someone not familiar with tax; and also be comfortable communicating with CRA. Tax isn't the only piece however as the successful candidate must also be able to bounce between multiple tasks all while maintaining a very high level of work-accuracy and keeping clients on-time with their reporting needs.
Experience using computerized tax preparation software (like Profile); bookkeeping software (like QuickBooks and Sage); MS products like Outlook, Excel and Word; Caseware; and payroll software (like Easypay) is essential.
