We design, manufacture, and support advanced equipment sensing and analysis products, including on-line oil debris sensors, torque measurement sensors, turbine blade health sensors, and at-line oil analysis systems.
Based out of our office in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Gastops' Service Center provide maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of aerospace components, laboratory fluid analysis, and state-of-the-art dynamic simulations of power and propulsion systems. Each of these services help our clients improve the lifecycle management and performance of large machines such as icebreakers, naval vessels, UAVs, and aircraft. We are looking for somebody to join our Machinery Analysis team and aid in achieving our mission of optimizing critical equipment and components for safety and productivity.
The Junior Machinery Analyst serves as a member of the Dartmouth NS services Engineering team, leading both internal and external initiatives related to Machinery Analysis. The position will report to the Team Lead of Machinery Analysis and work closely with the Defence & Aftermarket Business Unit. The role has a broad range of duties, all supporting the delivery of machinery analysis services to Gastops customers. Services are in the domain of design evaluation, diagnostics, prognostics and health management of client assets, with a heavy emphasis on dynamic system modelling and simulation. To execute the role effectively, the Machinery Analyst will collaborate closely with the engineering teams in both Gastops' Dartmouth and Ottawa offices.
What You'll Do:
The primary responsibilities of the Machinery Analyst are to:
Design, Implement, Validate, & Verify dynamic models of power and propulsion equipment using first principles, and data collected from physical assets
Perform Static & Dynamic Analyses of client machinery using simulations and numerical techniques to de-risk design, optimise control strategies, evaluate critical performance metrics, and quantify parameter sensitivities
Research topics related to the degradation, failure, and maintenance of machinery using fundamental theory and empirical data

As an active member of the machinery analysis team, the Analyst may be asked to complete other tasks, which include but are not limited to:
Assist in the design and/or optimization of power and propulsion control algorithms
Assist in developing real time digital twins for use with prognostics and health management (PHM) systems
Assist in developing hardware in the loop (HIL) systems for stimulating physical assets with simulations

What You Should Bring:
The following experiences are mandatory for the position.
Bachelor of Engineering degree from an accredited Canadian Engineering Program or equivalent (required)
Experience working with one or more of:
Control Systems
Marine Power and Propulsion Systems
Aerospace Power and Propulsion Systems
Electrical Power Systems
Complimentary Experience:
Any one of the following experiences would bring value to the role but are not required.
Experience using MATLAB Simulink for modelling and data analysis
Experience with customer or vendor interactions
Experience with manual labour, site installations, or commissioning of equipment
Experience with measurement systems & data collection
Familiarity with equipment used to test and validate hardware (oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, or thermal chambers)
Familiarity with Software Testing Principles
Experience with reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), or Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
Experience managing, organising, or administrating a project

Note on the Engineering Title:
To comply with regulations set by the provincial engineering licensing bodies the title of Engineer will only be given to those who are Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
