This role has the primary responsibility of managing the Medical Education portfolio for Health PEI, including managing and supervising staff who facilitate undergraduate and postgraduate learner opportunities with Health PEI. This role will be responsible for leading the collaborative implementation and monitoring of medical education strategic initiatives, and to identify areas of advancement to the Chief Academic Officer.

Duties:

  • Work collaboratively with the Chief Academic Officer to identify opportunities for advancement of medical education;
  • Work with all divisions of Health PEI to advance medical education across the provincial health authority, not only focusing on physician learners, but also all health disciplines;
  • Collaborate with the Transformation Office on the Medical School Learning Support workstream;
  • Lead the implementation of the Medical Education Program Strategic Plan 2022-27;
  • Develop action plans; short-term and long-term goals and business plans for meeting the goals and objectives of the Medical Education Program Strategic Plan 2022-27;
  • Foster collaborative working groups and partnerships with stakeholders to support the advancement of medical education, including but not limited to: UPEI, Holland College and other affiliate universities and academic institutions;
  • Develop working relationships with UPEI's Faculty of Medicine Leadership Team to assist with planning and supporting the development and implementation of the UPEI Medical School;
  • Assists in communication and social media strategy for the Medical Education Program;
  • Lead and collaborate with Medical Society of Prince Edward Island and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island, affiliate universities and government to support the implementation of the Medical Education Program Strategic Plan 2022-27;
  • Participate on evaluation and curriculum planning committees with educational partners;
  • Participate in planning for management plan and treasury board submissions to ensure appropriate funds are secured to implement the strategic goals;
  • Prepare briefing notes, progress reports and performance indicators on the implementation of the strategic plan;
  • Responsible for working with affiliate universities to implement, coordinate, deliver and administer the Family Medicine Residency Program; with the aim of sustainability, stability and advancement in physician resources for Health PEI;
  • Responsible for monitoring the advancement of the Health PEI Medical Education Program by implementing strategic goals, established objectives and initiatives as aligned with the Family Medicine Residency Program within the Medical Education Program Strategic Plan 2022-27, and Health PEI Strategic Plan 2021-24;
  • Liaise with affiliate universities and educational partners to ensure capacity building through a faculty development and retention program;
  • Responsible for implementing and coordinating medical education programs with the aim of sustainability, stability and advancement in health human resources for Health PEI.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in sciences, health sciences, business and/ or equivalent combination of education, training, skills and working experience; - Demonstrated equivalencies may be considered
  • Considerable experience in a management position and supervisory experience;
  • Considerable experience in leading large scale change management initiatives;
  • Demonstrated ability to support staff through professional growth, continuing education, mentorship and coaching;
  • Extensive interpersonal skills to deal with the myriad of individuals, organizations, stakeholders, diverse backgrounds, styles and abilities;
  • Considerable experience in leadership and management, including budget management, risk management, strategic planning/implementation, operational planning, program development, procedure/policy development and evaluation processes;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop respectful relationships, to work productively and collaboratively with colleagues, government partners and stakeholders to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in compiling reports, spreadsheets and databases with excellent critical, analytical, and strategic thinking skills and logical reasoning
  • Experience in project management, time management, organizational, coordination and planning skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to deal with complex or contentious issues, exercise good judgment, use discretion, and assure appropriate action is taken
  • Proven decision making skills, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills and the ability to multitask, work well under pressure, and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Ability to work independently in a creative and innovative manner, in a high paced and deadline driven environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate within the mission and vision of Health PEI

Other Qualifications:

  • Master's degree is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Health PEI and the PEI Health System (governance, acts, Memorandums of Agreements, by-laws and physician licensure.)
  • Change Management certification considered an asset;
  • Knowledge in the realm of medical education in a clinic academic setting sector;
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications;
  • Ability to manage and adapt to variations in work schedules, locations and/or tasks;
  • Diversity and Inclusivity training preferred.

Salary Range: $43.22 - $54.02 per hour (Level 21)

Bi-Weekly Hours: 75 hours Bi-weekly / Mon - Fri

1 year contract with the possibility of extension
