ABOUT US

Longpre Architecture is a studio for serious professionals. Founded in 2022 in Vancouver, we design Vessels for the Soul - grounded, lasting architecture that holds meaning and demands respect.

We don't chase trends. We don't decorate. We translate. Our work is built on clarity for contractors, not fluff, and that same clarity defines how we run our studio.

We move fast. We expect results. Everyone here is held to a high standard - because the work matters, and so does the way we do it. There's hierarchy here, and it's intentional. You'll know who's leading, what's expected, and how to grow. If you're the type who steps up without being asked, you'll do well.

This is a place for those who still believe in mastery - in showing up, staying sharp, and building with purpose. For people who want to rise beyond comfort and take pride in their craft. We're disciplined, detail-focused, and direct. That starts at the top.

The tone here is serious, but never cold. You'll be mentored. You'll be challenged. You'll be supported - but not sheltered. Respect is earned. And when it is, it's real.

If you're ready to sharpen your tools, prove yourself, and be part of something built to last - welcome.

THE ROLE

We're looking for a Technologist to join our team in a support role under an Intermediate Technologist (Level II-III). You'll work across permit packages, construction documentation, and standards compliance. You'll be expected to keep files organized, revise redlines accurately, and speak up when things don't make sense. This is a hands-on, detail-focused role that demands follow-through. We're not expecting perfection - we're expecting awareness, accountability, and the willingness to improve.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Draft and revise technical drawings for city submissions and coordination sets, adhering to building codes, zoning bylaws, and Longpre standards
  • Apply redlines from senior staff with accuracy, speed, and zero ego - the goal is precision, not pride
  • Assist with permit packages, submission tracking, and documentation assembly
  • Conduct field measurements and support site analysis under guidance
  • Maintain clean, well-organized files and follow firm standards for naming, layers, and drawing structure
  • Help update checklists, technical logs, and quality control documents throughout the project lifecycle
  • Research products, materials, and code references for use in specs and documentation
  • Support construction administration: assist with meeting notes, site reports, and follow-up documentation
  • Execute tasks under direct supervision while showing initiative, curiosity, and steady improvement
  • Ask clear questions when stuck - don't wait for tasks, don't go silent, and don't spin your wheels
  • If something needs doing, we do it. No one waits to be asked.
  • Be fully available and responsive during business hours - reliability is the baseline

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3 years of relevant industry experience in architectural drafting, design, or permit documentation
  • Diploma in Architectural Technology or equivalent hands-on training and experience
  • Proficiency in architectural drafting software; Vectorworks is a strong asset
  • Solid understanding of drawing conventions, construction documentation, and plan set structure
  • Familiarity with the BC Building Code (BCBC 2024) and Vancouver bylaws (VBBL 2019), or a clear willingness to learn
  • Clear communicator - written, verbal, and visual - who can ask questions, take notes, and update teammates professionally
  • Ability to work under direct supervision while managing time and output independently
  • Receptive to direct feedback, open to correction, and willing to do the work required to improve
  • Must be registered with the AIBC or eligible to register in British Columbia.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Proficiency in Vectorworks (2D + 3D)
  • Working knowledge of VBBL 2019 and BCBC 2024, or the initiative to become fluent quickly
  • Familiarity with permit workflows, zoning research, and submission package assembly
  • Interest in technical excellence - you care about drawing clarity, accuracy, and consistency
  • Curiosity around tools that improve workflow (e.g., AI, automation, or drawing standards)
  • Strong organizational instincts - you like structure, checklists, and systems that work
  • Drive to grow into larger responsibilities over time, including project coordination
  • Strong attention to detail - you notice the small things that keep projects moving forward and prevent costly mistakes.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Earned Responsibility: This role is the beginning of a defined path - not a free pass to flexibility. Show up consistently, support your team, and you'll grow into more trust and responsibility.
  • Clear Growth Path: You'll receive a structured development framework with expectations for moving from Assistant I to Apprentice II - built on execution, not time served.
  • BI-Annual Performance Reviews: We offer feedback, recognition, and progression based on your contribution to the team, not just your job title.
  • Health Spending Account (HSA): Once you've passed your probation period, you'll have access to a flexible HSA for eligible expenses (CRA limitations apply).
  • Professional Development Support: AIBC dues and pre-approved workshops are covered within a capped PD budget, provided you're actively progressing in your role.
  • Time Off: 2 weeks paid vacation (3 after 2 years), all BC statutory holidays, Easter Monday, and a Winter Break from Dec 24 to the first working week of January.
  • Office Culture: You'll work alongside professionals who take their work seriously - we hold each other to a high standard and back each other up. No egos, no freeloaders.

HIRING PROCESS

We value transparency - here's what to expect from our four-stage hiring process:

  1. Pre-screening: Applicants are evaluated based on their pre-screen answers, portfolio quality, and relevant experience.
  2. Video Interview: A 30-minute interview with David Longpre.
  3. In-person Interview: A follow-up with David and possibly two others. Be prepared to think outside the box and present yourself authentically.
  4. Possible follow-up Interview or phone call: If we need it, we might want to do another interview to make sure you are the right fit.
  5. Professional References: We will require three references from your previous employers.
  6. Design Assignment: A 24-hour challenge to assess your technical thinking under real-world conditions.

HOW TO APPLY

Please complete the LinkedIn pre-screening questions, then send the following materials to :

  • A PDF portfolio (max 10MB)
  • A one-page designer resume
  • A cover letter that speaks to how your values align with our mission at Longpre Architecture

Note to Recruiters: We do not work with recruiting agencies. We encourage candidates to apply directly, ensuring a transparent and focused hiring process. Recruiters often charge 40-60% of your salary to the firm, reducing our ability to invest in your growth, not theirs. And because recruiters are incentivized to rotate talent quickly, that doesn't align with our commitment to building long-term careers.

Note: Applications that do not follow these instructions will not be considered.
