As part of the Finance team at JOEY Restaurant Group, the Payroll & Accounts Payable Coordinator will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and integrity of our Payroll and Accounts Payable (AP) functions. This role oversees full-cycle Canadian payroll for approximately 900 employees, along with invoice processing, payments, reconciliations, and vendor management, supporting the financial operations of our restaurants and Corporate Office.
You'll partner with internal teams, employees, and external vendors to ensure timely and accurate payroll and payments, maintain strong financial controls, and continuously improve processes. You bring strong attention to detail, accountability, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to take ownership and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
This role moves beyond task execution into end-to-end process ownership, issue resolution, reconciliation, compliance awareness, and proactive administration, all within a collaborative, high-performing Finance team where accuracy, service, and continuous improvement are valued. This is a full-time, in-office role based in Vancouver, BC.
Annual Compensation Range
$55,000 – $65,000 / year
The salary range is dependent on skill and work experience.
Responsibilities
- Process full-cycle, bi-weekly Canadian payroll for approximately 1,500 employees, including validating inputs, processing changes, reviewing calculations, balancing payroll, and processing payments
- Manage payroll and AP reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and variances, and coordinate corrections within established controls
- Process and manage statutory remittances (e.g., CRA, EHT, WorkSafe), government payments, employee benefits, garnishments, and other scheduled financial disbursements
- Receive, review, code, and process invoices from restaurants and corporate departments, ensuring timely and accurate payment
- Prepare and process payment runs, including cheques, ACH files, and electronic payments, while maintaining accurate supporting records
- Manage vendor onboarding and records, including credit card applications, and respond to inquiries from employees, restaurants, corporate teams, vendors, and external agencies
- Prepare payroll, AP, and other financial reports and analysis to support Operations and the Finance team
- Partner with Office Managers and General Managers to provide guidance, troubleshoot issues, and resolve payroll- and payment-related matters
- Support year-end payroll and financial processes, audits, reporting, and other accounting requirements
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and enhance accuracy and efficiency while contributing to ad hoc Finance projects and cross-functional initiatives
Requirements
- 1–2 years of experience in either full-cycle Canadian payroll or accounts payable/accounting, with an interest in developing broader finance experience
- Experience working with payroll, HRIS, accounting, or other financial systems; experience with complex systems is an asset
- Strong understanding of payroll and/or basic accounting principles
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and accuracy, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- A proactive, self-directed approach with the ability to take initiative, anticipate needs, and follow through with accountability
- Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- A high level of discretion and integrity when handling sensitive and confidential information
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across diverse teams
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
