We are seeking an Accounting & Payroll Specialist to join our team and support the financial operations of our organization across multiple entities. This is a hands-on accounting role that contributes to the day-to-day financial administration and reporting that supports our business operations.

The Role:

As Intermediate Accountant, you will manage a broad range of accounting and payroll activities, including multi-entity payroll processing, accounts payable and receivable, account reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting. The role requires a high level of accuracy and organization, with responsibility for maintaining reliable financial records, resolving discrepancies, meeting recurring deadlines, and supporting management with timely financial information.

You will:

  • Payroll Administration: Manage bi-weekly payroll processing for three entities using QuickBooks, including weekly timesheets, employee setup and changes, compensation, deductions, benefits, payroll records, reconciliations, and payroll-related reporting.
  • Accounts Receivable: Manage the monthly invoicing process, monitor outstanding receivables, perform routine collections, resolve billing discrepancies, maintain accurate customer records, and prepare AR reports.
  • Accounts Payable: Review, code, and process vendor invoices and bills, prepare payments in accordance with established approval procedures, maintain vendor records, and resolve routine invoice and payment discrepancies.
  • General Accounting: Perform weekly bank reconciliations and monthly credit card reconciliations, prepare balance sheet reconciliations, review general ledger activity, and identify and resolve missing, duplicate, or incorrectly recorded transactions.
  • Month-End Close: Support the monthly accounting close process through preparation of reconciliations, supporting schedules, documentation, recurring journal entries, and other close activities while meeting established deadlines.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare routine and ad-hoc financial reports, analyses, and account information, and provide accurate financial data and insights to support management reporting and decision-making.
What We're Looking For:
  • Typically, 3–5 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and month-end accounting.
  • Experience with QuickBooks and QuickBooks Payroll an asset.
  • Experience with Deltek VantagePoint or similar financial software, an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced environment, balancing competing priorities and adapting to changing business needs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess situations, identify solutions, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling financial and payroll information.
Education & Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Working toward a CPA designation is considered an asset.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or progress toward the designation is considered an asset.

Compensation:

The final compensation package will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and overall fit for the role.

  • Canada $75,000 - $90,000 CAD per year + Benefits
Location:

Equilibrium operates globally, with offices in South Brisbane, Australia; Vancouver, Canada; and Portland and Phoenix, USA.

We are accepting applications from candidates from within Vancouver, Canada. A flexible hybrid work arrangements will be considered for the right individual.

  • As the Employer operates globally, flexibility in work schedule may be required to support collaboration across different time zones.
