Findlay Lawyers is an established Hamilton-based plaintiff litigation firm seeking an entrepreneurial, down-to-earth, detail-oriented, and proactive lawyer to join our growing practice.

While our foundation has been in plaintiff personal injury litigation, we continue to expand our practice and are seeking a lawyer with experience across various areas of law including real estate, will & estates, estate litigation and employment law. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer who enjoys autonomy, strong client relationships, and the ability to help shape and grow a broader practice.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Employment Law Advisory & Workplace Support
    • Advise employer and employee clients on employment standards, human rights, workplace policies, accommodation obligations, privacy matters, discipline, terminations, and related compliance issues
    • Draft employment agreements, independent contractor agreements, restrictive covenants, workplace policies, and related employment documentation
    • Support workplace investigations, accommodation matters, disability management, and return-to-work issues
    • Represent clients in wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal, wage disputes, human rights complaints, and related employment matters
  • Estates, Probate & Wealth Planning
    • Advise clients on wills, powers of attorney, trusts, guardianship, estate planning, and related wealth transfer matters
    • Support estate administration, probate applications, executor guidance, passing of accounts, and beneficiary matters
    • Represent clients in estate disputes, including litigation involving beneficiaries, executors, or contested estates
    • Provide practical tax-conscious estate planning guidance where appropriate
  • Real Estate & Related Transactions
    • Support residential or related property transactions, title review, contract review, closing coordination, and property transfers
    • Assist with property-related legal matters connected to estate administration where applicable
  • Litigation & Dispute Resolution
    • Manage personal injury, long-term disability, and other insurance dispute claims
    • Assess the validity and scope of client claims
    • Drafting and reviewing pleadings, correspondence, mediation briefs, affidavits of documents, motion materials and pre-trial memoranda
    • Assist case managers on Accident Benefit matters, progression and EUOs, when needed
    • Represent clients in mediations, discoveries, motions, hearings, LAT proceedings, and other court proceedings
    • Conduct legal research and provide strategic legal recommendations
  • Client & Practice Management
    • Manage all aspects of client engagement, meetings, communication, file progression, and relationship management
    • Work collaboratively with internal support staff and case managers
    • Prioritize multiple files and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion
    • Contribute to the continued growth and diversification of the firm

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
    • LL.B. or J.D. from an accredited law school
    • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
    • 5+ years of relevant legal experience, particularly in litigation
    • Strong experience managing litigation files, including motions, mediations, discoveries, and hearings
    • Experience in personal injury, long-term disability, wills and estates, estate litigation, real estate, and employment law
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong client service orientation, sound judgment, and organizational skills
    • Ability to work proactively and collaboratively in a partially remote environment
    • French or additional language proficiency considered an asset
