We are seeking a skilled and customer-focused FTTH Customer Premises Technician to perform in-home installations of modems and routers as part of fiber-to-the-home deployments. The technician will be responsible for creating wall penetrations from the Network Interface Device (NID), running CAT5 patch cables, configuring network equipment, and ensuring safe and functional installations.
This position is offered on a piece work basis, where technicians are compensated per completed installation or task. Despite the piece work pay structure, weekly working hours are fixed, providing consistency and predictability in scheduling.
Requirements
- Install and configure modems and routers in residential homes.
- Run CAT5 patch cables from the NID to the modem/router location.
- Perform basic network setup and ensure connectivity and performance.
- Assess wall areas for safe drilling, ensuring no electrical wiring or hazards are present.
- Use appropriate tools and techniques to create wall penetrations for cable routing.
- Verify signal strength and connectivity post-installation.
- Ensure all equipment is functioning properly before leaving the site.
- Provide basic customer education on equipment usage and troubleshooting.
- Record installation details, including cable routing, equipment installed, and test results.
- Report any issues or deviations from standard procedures.
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver's license, own tools, and a personal vehicle.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Basic understanding of electrical safety and construction practices.
- Ability to use hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Education and Experience:
- 1 year of experience with home networking equipment (modems, routers, CAT5/CAT6 cabling).
- CompTIA Network+
- Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Premises Cabling Technician
- OSHA 10 or 30 (for safety awareness)
