Brief Description of the Role:
You'll take ownership of the backend architecture, guiding technical decisions and ensuring our infrastructure scales to meet the demands of hundreds of thousands of users and growing enterprise clients. You will lead backend development from design to deployment, making key decisions on architecture, APIs, integrations, and performance optimization.
You'll work closely with the founding team to shape the direction of the product, translating ambitious roadmap tasks into reliable, high-performing features. From writing new code, to refining/refactoring legacy features, you'll set the standard for code quality, development processes, and backend best practices.
You'll be a key voice in how we structure our backend systems, evaluate new technologies, and approach scalability, security, and maintainability. This is an opportunity to lead, innovate, and directly impact the trajectory of one of the fastest-growing companies in financial data and AI.
Requirements
You are a 10x engineer. If you're not sure, no need to apply. You need to write good code, fast. We don't care about years of experience, we care about performance.
- Proficiency in TypeScript, Node
- Experience with Cloudflare, Postgres, Prisma, Firebase
- Experience or interest in AI technologies, specifically Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Strong background working with and/or building APIs.
- Experience designing secure systems which are protected from abuse (bots, scraping, etc.).
- Proven experience or strong interest in investing and finance. Our platform is built by investors, for investors, so a solid understanding of investment concepts is essential, especially when working with advanced data and financial concepts.
- Bachelors or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering. (For certain candidates we may make exceptions ie: self-taught)
- Based in Canada.
Bonus:
- Experience growing a startup from zero to hero.
- Dev-ops/infrastructure management experience.
- Experience with Q/A tools and frameworks.

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer: Backend
Location: Remote with occasional in-person work in our co-working space in downtown Toronto.
Salary: $100,000-$220,000 + equity options. Why the huge range? Fiscal.ai (formerly FinChat) hires engineers based on talent and fit with our company, not based on traditional years of experience. Our salary offer will be determined on these factors within that range.
