Expression of Interest for Summer Opportunity - Casual Placement Educational Assistant

Are you an Educational Assistant with Lethbridge School Division and want to work during the summer?

The Division has a unique opportunity for a current Educational Assistant to work alongside the Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) Wellness Team from July 2, 2025 - August 14, 2025.

The successful Educational Assistant will support students and families in the community over the summer in the completion of socioemotional learning activities. All activities will be prearranged by the Division and MHCB team. Learning activities may include crafts, obstacle courses and other regulation-based activities. This will include assisting at hosting events at local venues such as swimming pools, parks, leisure centres, city facilities and other privately owned businesses that facilitate children-based activities. The work will be based predominantly outside.

22.00 hours/week scheduled Monday – Thursday, 9am-3pm.

What will you do?

  • Engage with students and families in a variety of settings and locations
  • Create an environment conductive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students
  • Encourage and support students and youth in the completion of learning activities
  • Support the preparation of materials that enhance programming
  • Engage and interact with students/youth and colleagues in a positive and professional manner
  • Assist students/families in completing activities that support the development of social skills
  • Encourage students/families in the development of self regulation, problem-solving skills, self-confidence, independence and self-reliance
  • Perform lift and transfer activities to assist in transporting (up to 40 lbs independently without equipment)
  • Engage with students/families through a variety of techniques, such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, etc.

Fitness and Abilities

  • Able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs independently

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

In order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants who are offered employment must provide:

  • A police information check: including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
