JOB PURPOSE:
The Production Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the production department. This role ensures that the products manufactured and shipped are of the highest quality while maintaining a safe work environment, following production timelines and, using the most cost-effective methods. The Production Supervisor provides support and guidance in the areas of performance management and talent development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
The following are key principle accountabilities, but are not limited to:
- Maintains a safe working environment for all employees by enforcing Health, Safety and Environmental Policies and ensuring training is provided where required.
- Promotes respect, diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace through open and tactful communication, transparency, and enforcing Company policies.
- Responsible to help sustain, enforce, and continually improve the 5S program.
- Supervises & schedules assigned shift production employees; performs administrative tasks and maintains communications associated with the activities of a production shift. Assumes responsibility for the shift's performance in safety, environmental waste & resource consumption, product quality, production output, and cost control; employee relationships; and effectiveness of communications relevant to shift performance and the attainment of plant goals.
- Prepares operating reports to summarize production, downtime and variance performance by machine and shift in the production area. Performs regular process observations and conducts root cause analysis for variances and relays any significant change or variance to management.
- Implements and ensures staff adheres to plant health, safety and environmental procedures at all times to secure a safe and efficient workplace. Instructs subordinates in safe operating procedures and plant conduct and requires them to follow these instructions.
- Requires subordinates to follow all provisions of operating instructions. Monitors quality of output and takes appropriate action, including shutdown of process, to prevent or limit production of off-grade material. Conducts, and assists others in conduct of, investigations to determine causes of quality defects.
- Ascertains assigned production goal at start of shift. Assigns personnel and determines use of machines so as to achieve this goal. Arranges for flow of raw material and finished product. Monitors progress during shift and take corrective action. Informs superiors when it appears that goal will not be met.
- Conducts operations to meet established cost standards for use of raw materials, utilities, manpower, and supplies. Instructs subordinates in most efficient use of machines and materials and requires instructions to be followed. Contributes to plant cost reduction effort.
- Attends internal product development meetings to identify new product demands, schedules, and procurement needs.
- Assigns 5S and other housekeeping tasks to subordinates so as to maintain production area in a neat and orderly condition. Cooperates with other shift foremen in housekeeping endeavors. Prepares production area for housekeeping inspections and serves, as assigned, on inspection teams.
- Performs 30-60-90 and semi-annual performance appraisals for direct reports.
- Identifies training requirements for the shift and works closely with the Training Specialist and HSE Specialist to schedule training.
- Monitor quality of product to lower scrap count.
- Will be required to function in other capacities.
Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience
- Completion of a degree in a technical or business-related discipline or, equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years' experience in a supervisory or management position.
- Experience developing and managing a team of people as well as performance management.
- Knowledge of health, safety and environmental practices in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge and ability to understand the process of manufacturing equipment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes combined with experience in a plastic manufacturing environment.
- Strong computer skills including the use Microsoft Office Suite of products.
