Fort Erie Community Preschool is looking for passionate Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE) to join our preschool family and fill the roles of Classroom Lead Educators and Classroom Educators. We're looking for people with a great love and patience for children, and a passion for teaching them the important elements of school life. You must be knowledgeable about best practices and preschool education methods, and be able to engage young children between the ages of 18 months and 6 to earn their trust and attention.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and develop creative programming and activities through a carefully constructed curriculum
  • Be familiar with play-based/inquiry learning
  • Be able to use a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children
  • Observe each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem
  • Encourage children to interact with each other and resolve occasional arguments
  • Assist with snacks and lunches, and supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times
  • Communicate with parents regularly in a sensitive and courteous manner
  • Document and make children's learning visible to themselves and parents using a variety of different methods
  • Collaborate with other educators and support staff
  • Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
  • Assist with toileting and diapering, and teaching children life skills
  • Work with the school's Board of Directors
  • Attend professional development workshops and training, and fundraising events
  • Oversee classroom management and time management

Prior experience working with children in a preschool setting would definitely be considered an asset.

Interview Preparation - Please have:

  • Excellent communication, organization, and active listening skills
  • A valid Vulnerable Sector Check
  • A current First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Membership with the College of Early Childhood Educators (in good standing)
  • A professional development portfolio/certificates
  • Inquiry-based activity planning samples
  • Classroom management, difficult conversations and conflict resolution experiences
  • Examples of programming using "How Does Learning Happen," The ELECT document and the Full Day Early Learning Kindergarten curriculum
  • Previous leadership experience, if any (not necessary, we will mentor)
  • Community volunteer experiences
