Our Saint John, New Brunswick office manages two Canadian Oil Tanker Vessels and we are currently recruiting a Fitter/Welder/Millwright Apprentive with Ocean Service Ltd.

DEPARTMENT: Engine

TITLE Fitter/Welder/Millwright Apprentice

EDUCATION: Minimum Engine Room Rating or Watchkeeping Certificate, not required but preferred, those candidates who have this certification will take precedence. Minimum SMAW S class 4G certification or above.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fitter is responsible to the Second Engineer for, but not limited to:
  • Assist the engine room watchkeeping duty engineers as required, in particular with regard to the maintenance of the plant.
  • Conduct duties of a watchkeeping rating if required.
  • Conduct on board welding in the ER and on deck and other vessel areas, when required. As such must have welding experience.
  • The repair, dismantling, overhaul, re-assembly and fitting of new/replacement parts of all machinery as directed and supervised.
  • Any other duties assigned to him by the Chief Engineer and Second Engineer as appropriate.

General duties:

  • NS SAF 001 (Shipboard Familiarisation Record) to be completed upon joining.
  • Maintenance of his accommodation in a clean and tidy condition.

Location:

  • Our Oil Tanker Vessels travel to Saint John, NB; Charlottetown, PE; Halifax, NS; St. John's, NL; and frequent trips to Boston. A valid passport and ability to travel to the United States is mandatory.

All contracts are 40 days on, 40 days off (paid leave system) with the exception of any relief work that may require shorter contracts. For our permanent employees, we offer competitive wages, company paid Health and Dental, and RRSP investments. All travel to and from our vessels is company paid.
