DCH is a locally owned and operated crane and transport service. DCH has been active in construction and industry in Newfoundland Labrador since 1982. We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accounting Clerk/Administrative Assistant to support the day-to-day financial and administrative operations of the business. This role combines front-office administration, customer service, bookkeeping, payroll processing, and accounting support responsibilities. As a key member of our team, you will help ensure the smooth operation of our office while maintaining accurate financial records and supporting payroll, invoicing, and remittance processes.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative & Customer Service

  • Answer and direct incoming telephone calls professionally and courteously.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries and email requests.
  • Provide general administrative support to management and staff.
  • Assist with daily reporting, data entry, filing, and record management.
  • Maintain accurate customer, vendor, and company records.
  • Support efficient day-to-day office operations.

Accounting & Bookkeeping

  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable activities.
  • Prepare and issue weekly customer invoices.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Process financial transactions using Sage 50 or similar accounting software.
  • Assist with month-end reporting and accounting activities as required.

Payroll & Compliance

  • Process weekly payroll accurately and on schedule.
  • Prepare and submit monthly payroll remittances.
  • Prepare and submit GST/HST remittances.
  • Prepare and submit union remittances.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll, tax, and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain payroll records with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, or office administration.
  • Experience processing payroll and government remittances.
  • Proficiency in Sage 50 (Simply Accounting) or similar accounting software.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a small business, construction, or trades environment.
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations, GST/HST requirements, and statutory remittances.
