Golf Professional - St. John's
Higher Talent is seeking an experienced and customer-focused Golf Professional to lead the day-to-day golf operations at GlenDenning Golf Course in St. John's. Reporting to the General Manager, the Golf Professional will oversee all aspects of golf operations, including the Pro Shop, tournaments, leagues, golf instruction, merchandising, practice facilities, and member services.
The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in delivering an exceptional golf experience by managing staff, developing instructional programs, coordinating tournaments and member events, and driving player engagement through innovative programming and community outreach. This individual will also collaborate closely with the General Manager to support marketing initiatives, enhance the club's online presence, and promote GlenDenning as a premier golf destination.
The Job
- Responsible for the overall day to-day operations and services of the golf course, including the Pro Shop, leagues, tournaments, practice facilities and cart fleet.
- Responsible for the coordination of golf instruction, golf schools, tournaments, and golf merchandising.
- Working with the GM, coordinate marketing programs to promote GlenDenning's services to potential players and oversee member events and daily play.
- Work with the GM to create content and keep the website and social media platforms updated and informative.
- Perform other duties as directed by the GM.
- Must be CPGA certified and be trained from a recognized Post Secondary Institution.
Golf Operations
- Enforce all operational rules and policies governing the use of the golf course and practice facility.
- Operate and maintain a reputable golf instruction business and practice range, staffed with competent personnel.
- Facilitate the operation of a handicap system for all golfers.
- Develop a program to attract new golfers and guests, through golf instruction and player development.
- Maintain a close working relationship with the Course Superintendent and maintenance staff.
- Maintain a close working relationship with all managers. Attend regular meetings for updates on tournaments, group bookings, events, and golf.
- Handle specific complaints in all areas of golf operations and regularly report to the GM.
Pro Shop Operations
- Hire, manage, train, schedule and supervise Pro Shop Staff, Back Shop Staff, Marshalls, Starters, etc. in the day to-day performance of their jobs.
- Become very knowledgeable with the Company's operating software and be able to train staff in its use.
- Maintain the online store including fulfilling online orders.
- Order inventory and sell merchandise in the Pro Shop, featuring quality merchandise.
- Ensure Pro Shop is always staffed and properly maintained in a clean and presentable condition.
- Provide a profitable and efficient merchandising plan, ensuring minimum inventory levels and maximum profits.
- Order and maintain merchandise levels to meet customer demands.
- Ensure proper controls are in place for the order, delivery, receiving and stocking of merchandise; supervise weekly and monthly physical inventories of merchandise.
- Coordinate product promotions, instore displays, etc.
- Stay current with golf markets trends in fashion and product.
- Create material to display golf course policies and rules.
- Ensure the proper ordering and stocking of pro shop staples such as scorecards, pencils, forms, ball mark repair tools, cart keys and tags.
- Perform club repair, custom fitting, and club regripping.
Tournament & League Operations
- Responsible for all, Club Member Events and Tournaments
- Develop and administer tournament activities, in collaboration with the Managers.
- Be present at the tournaments to greet organizers and golfers and to provide general support to golf operations staff as required.
- Responsible for the organization, execution, and communication for the following: Ladies' League & Men's League
- Other events that will be the full responsibility of the Golf Pro and are as follows: Club Championship & Members Day
- Must work closely with the GM to obtain new sponsors for specific events and tournaments.
Golf Academy Operations
- Familiar and trained in the CPGA First Tee program
- Develop programs for teaching golfers of all skill levels.
- Administer and develop weekly clinics for men, women, and junior golfers.
- Develop a local junior program.
- Create material for integrated marketing of GlenDenning golf academy.
- Develop and create instructional booklets for new students.
- Responsible for recruiting teaching assistants and volunteers.
- Responsible for all golf academy operations from setup to execution and administration.
- Approach possible sponsors during the offseason to work with GlenDenning in the development of junior programs and golf schools.
- Provide community outreach through area schools and other social programs to promote GlenDenning Golf and its programs.
