Position Summary

The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of Centre for Youth Care, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, and effective financial processes across the organization.

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position provides leadership to the finance team, including the Accountant and Payroll Coordinator. The Finance Manager is responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, payroll oversight, audit coordination, and government funding requirements while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and applicable legislation.

Working closely with the Executive Director and leadership team, the Finance Manager provides financial information that supports informed decision-making and helps ensure the organization's financial health. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines people management with day-to-day financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations

· Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the organization.

· Ensure the accuracy and integrity of accounting records and financial transactions.

· Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, reconciliations, and month-end activities.

· Monitor cash flow and support sound financial management.

· Maintain effective financial controls and ensure compliance with organizational policies.

· Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and operational efficiencies.

Financial Reporting & Budgeting

· Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting reports.

· Assist with the development and monitoring of the annual operating budget.

· Monitor budget performance and provide variance reporting.

· Support financial forecasting and planning.

· Prepare financial reports and summaries for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

· Provide financial information and analysis to support organizational decision-making.

Government & Funder Reporting

· Prepare Accountability Reports (ARs), Program Reports (PRs), and other funding-related financial reports.

· Ensure compliance with funding agreements and reporting requirements.

· Assist with preparing budgets and financial information for funding applications.

· Work collaboratively with program managers to ensure accurate financial reporting for funded programs.

· Maintain accurate financial records to support government and funder reporting requirements.

Payroll & Audit

· Provide leadership and support to the Payroll Coordinator.

· Review payroll processes and ensure compliance with payroll legislation and organizational policies.

· Coordinate the annual external audit and prepare supporting documentation.

· Assist with year-end financial reporting and audit requirements.

· Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

Systems & Continuous Improvement

· Support the ongoing improvement of financial systems and processes.

· Maintain finance-related policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures.

· Work with internal and external IT providers on finance-related system needs.

· Recommend improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and consistency within the finance department.

Leadership

· Supervise, coach, and support the Accountant and Payroll Coordinator.

· Conduct regular performance discussions and annual performance reviews.

· Provide coaching, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth.

· Foster a collaborative, accountable, and positive team environment.

· Participate as a member of the leadership team and contribute to organizational initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

· CPA designation or working toward a CPA is considered an asset.

· Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting or finance experience.

· Previous experience supervising or leading staff is preferred.

· Experience working within the nonprofit, charitable, healthcare, or social services sector is considered an asset.

· Strong understanding of accounting principles, budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, and internal controls.

· Experience with accounting and payroll software.

· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.

· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

Working Conditions

· Participation in meetings outside regular business hours may occasionally be required.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Successful completion of applicable background checks is required.
