Third Officer
Established in St. John's 2015, MST (Atlantic) Shipping Management ULC (formally Altera (Atlantic) Management ULC) was developed from a regional shipping company into one of the world's largest marine energy, transportation, storage, and production companies. MST (Atlantic) Shipping Management ULC nature of business is the provision of crude oil marine transportation services and the operation/management of crude oil shuttle tankers operating on the East Coast of Canada.
MST (Atlantic) Shipping Management ULC is currently accepting resumes for the position below.
Position: Third Officer
Rotation: Five weeks on/off
Status: Permanent
Start Date: Fall 2026
Position Summary
Third Officer required stand bridge watches, operate, and navigate the vessel safely. Third Officer should have specific knowledge to the maintenance requirements of the bridge equipment.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Transport Canada Watchkeeping Mate (CoC), Class 4
- Transport Canada Basic Tanker Safety (Oil) Endorsement required - company will provide training for Advanced Tanker Safety (Oil)
- DP Induction Certificate considered an asset
- GOC (General Operator's Certificate) considered an asset
- STCW Basic Safety Training
- STCW Survival Craft other than Fast Rescue Craft
- STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
- STCW Ship Personnel with Designated Security Duties
- Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate (unrestricted)
- Bridge Resource Management Certificate considered an asset
- Valid Passport
- Must successfully pass pre-employment physical, drug and alcohol screening, and background checks
Responsibilities:
- Promote a strong safety and environmental compliance culture
- Report unsafe acts or non-compliance with regulations or company procedures to the Master
- Stand navigational watches at sea and port watches as assigned
- Assist with safe navigation and vessel operations
- Maintain and inspect firefighting and life-saving appliances
- Maintain navigation equipment, flags, signaling equipment, and bridge gear
- Assist with cargo watches in port as directed by the Chief Officer
- Conduct routine inspections and safety checks
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Support safe vessel operations and teamwork onboard
