EMPLOYER ADVISOR

We are looking for a motivated, service-oriented person to join our team at the Board of Trade as an Employer Advisor.

If you want to build real-world expertise in human resources, disability management, and employer advocacy, this is a fantastic place to grow your career, engage with the business community, and have real impacts on government policymaking.

We recognize the need to develop knowledge and confidence in the role, so our experienced advisor team offers a supportive environment with ongoing mentorship and guidance as you build experience and engage with clients.

Key Functions:

  • Employer Guidance: You'll help local employers navigate often complex workers' compensation issues. This means breaking down legislative and policy requirements simply and clearly. This can include injury reporting requirements, support for return-to-work plans, along with support through business-specific processes at WorkplaceNL.
  • Advocacy for Employers: You'll help employers be fully prepared for review processes when they disagree with WorkplaceNL decisions. This can include representation and written arguments for internal reviews to in-person attendance at external review hearings.
  • Safety & Human Resource Support: You'll be an available resource for everyday questions about occupational safety, labour standards, or human rights obligations. You will provide solid, practical information for employers. If the matter requires deeper support (legal, medical, industry-specific), you direct them toward the appropriate resources to help resolve their issue.
  • Research: You'll research previous compensation cases, labour market changes, and legislative updates. This research will help ground your arguments for decision reviews, shape briefing materials, and support policy discussions.
  • Employer Education: You'll help create and deliver engaging information sessions and develop educational materials to keep employers informed and prepared on topics that are relevant to their operations.

Candidate Profile:

  • Education and Skills: You have a post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, HR, Labour Relations, Social Sciences or a relevant field. (A different educational background with the right skillset will be considered)
  • Interest in Learning: You have a general comfort level with rules and regulations, but more importantly, you are willing to learn how specific legislative and policy requirements fit together and are applied.
  • A Good Communicator: You can learn about a complicated problem and explain it simply and clearly, providing employers with solid advice and peace of mind. You have a comfort level with speaking to groups and can handle tough conversations when needed.
  • Provide Reliable Research: You know how to track down reliable information from credible sources, put that information together, and provide information in a way which is understandable and supports good decision-making.

Experience: While more significant work experience is an asset, some solid foundational exposure to HR, policy research, and client support will help prepare for this role, which will involve building a knowledge base as you move forward.

Other Requirements:

  • A valid Class 5 driver's license is required, and some travel will be required throughout the Province.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $52,000 - 62,000 per year
  • Benefits: Comprehensive health, vision, and dental benefits via the Chamber of Commerce Group Insurance Plan. Group RRSP matching program available.
  • 3 weeks of vacation to start.
