Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers (AUNBT)
The Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers (AUNBT) invites applications for the position of Professional Officer - Labour Lawyer.
AUNBT (a union under the NB Industrial Relations Act) represents approximately 600 full-time and 350 contract academic staff located primarily on UNB's Fredericton and Saint John campuses.
Key Responsibilities
Subject to the direction of the President and Executive Committee, the Professional Officer will perform the following representative duties:
- Provide substantial professional support to the Grievance Committee in all aspects of the grievance process, including case management, grievance hearings and arbitrations, and research
- Assist the President and various AUNBT committees
- Support negotiation teams in the collective bargaining process
- Be involved in communicating with and offering support services to AUNBT members
- Promote good working relations with various levels of UNB's administration and with other UNB employee groups. The successful candidate may have a role in relations with other local, provincial and national associations with similar interests.
Qualifications
Applicants will have a law degree and preferably postgraduate training in a labour-related area. The successful candidate will have substantial experience working in academic and/or unionized environments. Experience with interpreting collective agreements, the grievance and arbitration processes, and facility with legal/contract drafting is essential. The successful applicant must possess strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills. They must be flexible and able to work collegially. They will work from UNB's Fredericton campus and must be able to travel to the Saint John (and, occasionally, Moncton) campus as needed.
Salary with benefit package is competitive and based on qualifications and experience.
