The Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture (NSFA) represents the interests of Nova Scotia's agricultural community. Today its members account for well over 90% of all agricultural production in Nova Scotia and brings together farm businesses representing all aspects of primary agriculture in the province. The NSFA tackles policy issues that impact the competitive and sustainable nature of the industry and takes an active role in supporting registered farms through delivery of programs and services. The NSFA supports environmental stewardship and the adoption of best practice with the ultimate goal of preserving and restoring our agricultural ecosystems for generations to come.

The NSFA is currently seeking a Living Lab Coordinator (LLC) to coordinate activities that are part of the Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) Living Lab Program of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture (NSFA). The LLC will oversee the Land Swap Project and develop best management practices for incorporating grazing of livestock into horticulture rotations to improve carbon sequestration and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about agriculture, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and environmental stewardship. The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding of field research methodologies. The LLC must be a team player with leadership and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee, manage, and coordinate the Land Swap Project
  • Manage, train and oversee summer students and casual research assistants
  • Participate in field activities, such as sample collection, moving of livestock and fence installation
  • Ensure data quality and accuracy
  • Manage project budgets and expenditures
  • Evaluate project to ensure deliverables are met
  • Manage communication between program staff, the organization, and relevant external stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain partnerships to increase collaboration and coordination of initiative
  • Prepare information for fact sheets and deliver presentations to various groups on project results
  • Liaise with members to understand their environment and climate change needs and to tailor research programming
  • Support other areas of the Living Lab program as required.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in field science such as Agriculture, Environmental Science, Biology or Geology
  • Minimum of three years of relevant working experience
  • Knowledge of the agriculture industry, environmental best practices, and climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies
  • Experience in conducting practical on-farm research
  • Previous experience managing research assistants or other team members.
