Director of Finance
We are looking for a Director of Finance to oversee general accounting operations by controlling and verifying our financial transactions.
LifeRaft (Social Navigator Inc.) is a company based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, that provides a SaaS-based threat intelligence platform to security and business risk teams in the corporate/commercial sector. Navigator is used world-wide by Fortune 100 companies, global organizations, and investigative firms. Our team is constantly innovating and developing the platform to anticipate and respond to the evolving needs of our customers, further bridging the gap between physical and digital security challenges.
The Director of Finance will manage a set of accounting activities to ensure compliance with accepted accounting principles, corporate policies, and external audits. This person will manage the accounts payable function, payroll function, monthly closing of accounts and preparation of reports in support of the financial statements.
The Director of Finance will report directly to the CEO and work closely with other members of the executive team to conduct analysis and reconciliation of accounts and in the development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures and controls.
The ideal candidate possesses leadership capabilities, solid operational and technical accounting background and works proactively to drive results. This person is a self-starter, flexible, has a high level of integrity and is action and goal-oriented in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
- Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
- Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
- Analyze different company expenses to spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending (e.g. company mobile phone plan)
- Provide technical support and advice on Management accountant
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Manage accounting assistants and bookkeepers
- Participate in financial standards setting and in the forecast process
- Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
- Assist with tax audits and tax returns
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
- Proven experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor, chief or senior accountant
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, like FreshBooks and QuickBooks
- Experience working in a SaaS company highly preferred
- Experience with SaaS-Optics preferred
- Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
- Relevant certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) will be preferred
- CPA designation or designation near completion
- Strong technical expertise in assurance, accounting and tax
- Ability to develop and present new ideas and conceptualize new approaches and solutions
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
