Systems Administrator

The St. John's Transportation Commission is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Systems Administrator in our Information Technology Group.

This position is responsible for the installation and administration of computer and server-based applications, the training of staff in computer hardware and software operations, and analyzing of organizational needs relating to computerized information processing and technological innovation. Duties include assisting in the maintenance and administration of the local area network; troubleshooting and resolving technical network problems; performing helpdesk duties including related troubleshooting and problem solving; supporting and advising employees on the use of applications; maintaining and managing licenses for software; maintaining and troubleshooting all bus-related software programs and revenue hardware; analysing and participating in the identification of information system requirements and technology needs and contributing to implementation planning; assisting with the administration of Internet and e-mail functions; managing VMWare virtual environment; installing upgrades and maintaining network/stand-alone systems and configuring related computer hardware and software; providing technical support to satellite sales outlets; providing after-hours on-call support for Metrobus and sales outlets as needed; maintaining liaison with external vendors and consultants concerning the maintenance and administration of applications; and performing related duties as required.

This position requires knowledge of computer operating systems, software applications, hardware use, a proficiency with local area networks, VMWare, Microsoft Office 365 applications, including OneDrive and Sharepoint, and the ability to analyse basic to intermediate level hardware and software needs. Candidates should possess a college diploma or university degree in computer science or business administration, supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years related experience working with servers, local area networks and a variety of software applications. Extensive experience in a Windows environment is required. We value experience, but we also recognize that skills come from many places.
