Position Title: Chef
Reports To: General Manager

Position Summary:
The position of Chef is an important member of our leadership team. We are looking for someone who leads by example, modeling ways to create an extraordinary taste experience while consistently exercising cost and inventory control, meeting sales goals, and leading a safe and healthy workplace. The Chef collaborates with other kitchen staff to create a positive and effective operation.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Works with the Management Team to ensure a working environment that is inclusive, collaborative and nurtures a positive working environment.
  • Manage and lead staff through the team life cycle including hiring new members, providing orientation to new additions, scheduling of team members, providing performance management and coaching, and execution of the termination and exit process.
  • Coordinate all food purchasing, budgeting and planning operations with other staff members.
  • Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales and inventory, analyze operating, food and labour costs and adjust as required.
  • Forecast requirements, negotiate contracts, order supplies, maintain accurate inventories and adhere to cost guidelines.
  • Preparing and maintaining workstations in such a manner as to maximize efficiency and adherence to safe food handling practices.
  • Monitor kitchen tools and equipment, supplies, and work areas to ensure conformance to established standards. Repair and replace as required.
  • In consultation with executive management develop and test new menu items and deliver training on proper preparation to other kitchen staff. Ensure that company policies related to sustainability, cost control and food waste are respected.
  • Establish preparation systems and operating procedures and train kitchen staff.
  • Preparing and cooking meals following recipes, quality and timeliness standards and presentation specifications.
  • As required, meet with clients to establish menus and negotiate pricing for special events.
  • Adhere to occupational health and safety regulations and procedures and safe food handling practices at all times.
  • Ensuring that orders leaving the kitchen are correct and accounted for in the Point of Sale system.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner in accordance with established company policies to achieve the overall objectives of the position.
  • Maintain a favorable working relationship with all other company employees and guests to foster and promote a working environment that maximizes morale, productivity and efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 years experience as a cook
  • Advanced knowledge of culinary techniques.
  • Current knowledge of safe food handling requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to establish and develop relationships with guests, suppliers and coworkers.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, control, and composure in difficult and stressful situations.

Asset Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a Culinary Diploma or Certification Program including Red Seal.
  • WHMIS certificate

Work Conditions:

  • Capable of lifting 20 pounds regularly throughout the shift
  • Capable of standing, walking, cleaning and serving throughout the shift which may be 6-8 hours in length
  • Regularly reaches, bends, stoops, lifts, mops and wipes all of which require physical strength and flexibility.
  • Manual dexterity required to use a tablet or computer.
