Tidal CFO Services Inc. - Remote (Atlantic Canada preferred)
$50,000 - $60,000 annually, plus health benefits

About Tidal CFO
Tidal CFO is a remote-first, CPA-led fractional finance firm based in Atlantic Canada. We work with Canadian businesses - startups, nonprofits, and growing SMEs - to bring clarity, structure, and confidence to their finances.

We're not a traditional accounting firm. No timesheets, no billable-hour culture, no scramble to hit utilization targets. We run on a retainer model, which means you're measured by the quality and reliability of the books you produce - not the hours you clock. And here, bookkeeping isn't the bottom of the pile. Clean, accurate books are the foundation everything else is built on - our entire advisory and CFO practice is only as good as the numbers underneath it. We take that work seriously, and we're looking for someone who does too.

The Role
We're hiring a Cloud Accountant to take on a portfolio of client books in a modern, cloud-based environment - coding, reconciling, and closing each month to a standard you'd be proud to put your name on.

This is the seat for someone who has the fundamentals down and is ready to own real client files. You've done full-cycle bookkeeping before. You know your way around QuickBooks Online or Xero, and you're ready to get fast in both. You can work a file end to end, and you know when a question is above your line.

You won't be doing it alone. Your work is reviewed by a Senior Cloud Accountant, and you have a Manager and a CPA-led team behind you for the complex calls. But the day-to-day file is yours to run - and as you build depth, so does the complexity of the portfolio you carry.

Because we're remote-first, you'll need to work independently, communicate proactively, and engage directly with clients - including picking up the phone when that's the fastest way to get an answer and keep work moving.

What You'll Do

  • Own the books
    • Take ownership of full-cycle bookkeeping for your assigned clients in QBO or Xero
    • Code transactions with judgment - prepaids, fixed assets, owner items, and non-business expenses handled correctly and consistently, with a Senior reviewing before delivery
    • Keep workflows current so nothing sits idle without explanation, and flag anything that doesn't look right
  • Reconcile with rigour
    • Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations with minimal unexplained items at month-end
    • Investigate discrepancies using logic, history, and independent research before escalating- and bring the steps you've already tried when you do
  • Make the most of the tools
    • Use Dext to manage receipts and source documents, keeping inboxes clear and organized
    • Build and maintain supplier and bank rules to cut repetitive work - applying automation thoughtfully, with healthy professional skepticism
  • Get the month closed
    • Ensure reconciliations and supporting schedules are complete, documented, and audit-ready ahead of review
    • Run a first-pass review of the P&L and Balance Sheet to catch obvious errors and anomalies before the file reaches your Senior
  • Keep work moving and clients informed
    • Manage your tasks in our practice management system and keep statuses current - stale statuses aren't a thing here
    • Communicate directly with clients to request information, clarify transactions, and resolve open items - by phone or email, whatever gets it done

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of full-cycle bookkeeping. Firm-side cloud experience is ideal, but strong in-house experience across multiple entities counts too.
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online or Xero - and the appetite to get fully fluent in both. We'll invest in getting you there.
  • Dext experience managing receipts and document workflows, or comparable document-capture tooling.
  • Someone who likes the craft of clean books - you find satisfaction in a tidy reconciliation, not just in getting it off your plate.
  • A remote self-starter who manages multiple clients and priorities and asks good questions early rather than late.
  • A confident communicator who's comfortable engaging clients directly and picking up the phone when needed.
  • Bilingual (English / French) is a strong asset - not required.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with at times conflicting priorities.

What This Isn't

  • This isn't a data-entry seat. You own the file and exercise judgment - we're not handing you a coding sheet to follow.
  • It's also not a CFO or advisory role. You'll see how clean books feed the advisory work we do, and there's a defined path toward it - but this seat is about learning to do the bookkeeping exceptionally well.
  • And it isn't unsupported. You'll work inside a structured system with documented processes, modern tools, review layers built into the workflow, and a team to escalate to when a call is above your line.

Where This Goes
We promote from this seat. Our Senior Cloud Accountants own larger, more complex portfolios and review the work of others - and that's the natural next step here for someone who earns it. We'll be clear with you from day one about what "ready" looks like, and we'll review it with you rather than leaving you to guess.

What We Offer

  • Base salary of $52,000 - $62,000, depending on experience
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits
  • Fully remote - work from wherever you do your best work
  • 3 weeks paid time off
  • A modern, best-in-class cloud stack and documented processes - no chasing down information
  • A small, high-trust team where your work is visible and genuinely valued
  • Room to grow as the firm scales
