Evergreen Home for Special Care is a long term care facility located in the beautiful Annapolis Valley. Licensed by the Department of Health and Wellness, Evergreen provides care for its residents regardless of age, sex, race, creed, and social status.
The facility is comprised of a Children's Centre which is licensed to provide 24 hour nursing coverage for 8 children and a Seniors Centre consisting of 97 residents. All residents receive multidisciplinary care based on a holistic approach to ensure physical, mental and spiritual well being while recognizing the right to individuality, respect and dignity.
The Seniors' Centre provides care to adults and seniors whose physical, mental and intellectual needs are addressed through qualified nursing care, dietary services and recreational programming within a clean and safe environment. The involvement of families, staff and volunteers contributes to the mission of meeting the needs of all residents of Evergreen.
Join Our Team! Evergreen Home for Special Care is seeking a compassionate and reliable Nutrition Service Worker to assist with meal preparation and service, supporting the health and well-being of our residents.
Responsibilities:
The Nutrition Service Worker is responsible for supporting the delivery of safe, nutritious, and enjoyable meals, while maintaining a clean and sanitary food environment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing and serving meals, beverages, and nourishments according to menus, portion standards, and therapeutic diet requirements.
- Setting up and clearing dining rooms before and after meals.
- Washing dishes, utensils, cookware, and food service equipment using approved sanitation procedures.
- Cleaning and sanitizing dining rooms, kitchen work areas, equipment, and food preparation surfaces.
- Maintaining cleanliness of assigned work areas and ensuring compliance with food safety, infection prevention, and workplace health and safety standards.
- Assisting with stocking supplies, rotating food items, and reporting shortages to the supervisor.
- Working collaboratively with the Dietary team and other departments to provide high-quality resident care.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or equivalent preferred.
- Current Food Handlers Course is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in the healthcare food service environment is considered an asset.
- Have an understanding of and commitment to resident-centered care.
- Availability to work all shifts (8-hour), including weekends, holidays, and on-call as required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong planning, organizational, prioritization, and time management abilities.
- Demonstrate initiative, self-motivation, and ability to work independently.
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with residents, staff, families, and volunteers.
- Accountability and responsibility for own actions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all matters related to residents, staff, and the organization.
- Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety and ethical practice.
- Dedication to ongoing learning and professional development.
- Ability to read and understand standardized recipes.
- Experience with therapeutic diets is considered an asset.
- Demonstrate record to attend scheduled shifts on a consistent basis.
- Consistent attendance record and demonstrated reliability.
- Physically capable to perform the duties of the position including but not limited to:
- Ability to lift/push in excess of 35 lbs.
- Capable of performing physical tasks including walking, standing, lifting, and bending throughout the majority of the workday.
Term of Position:
- Permanent, Part-time (0.6 FTE) Position
