Executive Director, Borealis Family Practice Network
The Borealis Family Practice Network (FPN) is a non-profit corporation, comprised of and led by Family Physicians working in Labrador and Northern Newfoundland. The FPN is designed to improve patient care, help family physicians work collaboratively with their zonal leadership of the Provincial Health Authority (PHA) to address common health care goals in their communities, and enhance professional satisfaction for physicians.
FPN Executive Director is a full-time position reporting to the FPN Board of Directors, receiving supervision and direction through the Board Chair, and supported by the Family Practice Renewal Program. The FPN Executive Director will engage family physicians as FPN members and support the membership in its collaboration with the PHA and other strategic partners. This position will work with the Board to develop and implement strategic plans in support of FPN goals. The FPN Executive Director is expected to work independently, across FPN communities, and attend and support regular Board meetings.
Excellent leadership, facilitation, strategic thinking, and analytical skills are required, including ability to: develop programs and policies; develop, manage and implement concurrent projects/budgets; engage and build effective relationships with family physician members and other stakeholders; use good judgment to effectively handle sensitive or confidential matters and solve problems/conflicts; work in an unstructured environment; use flexible and creative approaches to solve problems; and juggle competing priorities.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in health/health administration/business administration, community development, relevant social sciences, or related field.
- Five or more years of progressive management experience, preferably in health care and/or the non-profit sector.
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating programs or projects in healthcare, education, or non-profit sectors.
- Exceptional organization and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Comfort using virtual platforms (e.g., Zoom, MS Teams) and digital tools for collaborative work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a physician-led team.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in health/health administration/business administration, community development, relevant social sciences, or related field.
- Knowledge of the NL primary health care system including a good understanding of the Provincial Health Authority and primary care environment.
- Awareness of the primary care challenges faced by rural and remote communities of Labrador and Northern Newfoundland.
- Previous experience working with Indigenous Governments and Organizations, family physicians, and/or Boards of Directors.
Job Type: Full-time, permanent.
Compensation and Benefits: Competitive compensation package, based on experience. Dental and extended health care provided.
Working Conditions and Scheduling: Remote work. Monday to Friday. Flexible scheduling required to accommodate early morning, evening and weekend meetings and events. Intermittent travel will be required for regional and provincial activities.
