The New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes (NBANH) is an organization that provides services and advocates for the interests of the 79 licensed nursing homes in New Brunswick, which employ over 7,500 people.

Employment and Labour Relations services are among the key services that NBANH offers its members. NBANH is seeking an individual who is passionate about working in a socially conscious, dynamic environment and is interested in being challenged to find practical solutions to a wide range of issues.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this role works with other members of the NBANH team to provide interpretation of collective agreements for managers, lead or assist with collective agreement negotiations, represent member homes at grievance arbitrations and Labour and Employment Board hearings. The individual in this role will also provide additional services consistent with expertise level. This is a leadership role in the long-term care sector that requires flexibility and must maintain a general knowledge base on all NBANH initiatives and sector developments in such a way as expected of an in-house resource.

NBANH is looking for the right person and is willing to create a role to meet that person's strengths. Although a significant portion of this role is to provide Labour and employment services, there is opportunity to meet other needs of the organization around ethics in care provision, management education and training, and policy/legislative review and advocacy.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide interpretation of existing collective agreements for managers
  • Be a resource for managers with respect to labour and employment matters
  • Negotiate Collective Agreements as lead or in support
  • Occasional travel throughout New Brunswick is required
  • Additional roles, depending on the skill set of the successful applicant
  • Participation in sector development based on interest and capacity
  • Develop reports, gives presentations and educational sessions as needed

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • University degree in law, industrial relations, human resources or related field
  • Experience in Labour and Employment Law would be an asset
  • Committed to creating positive social change and organizational improvement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent and creative problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized individual with strong attention to detail
  • Competency in French and English is required

Terms of Employment

Permanent, full time. Local and provincial travel may be required. This position is based in Fredericton, NB.

Salary and Benefits

  • $90,000 - $150,000 annual salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience
