FAMILY EDUCATOR (2026)

About Us
Family and Early Childhood West Inc. is seeking passionate, knowledgeable, and caring professionals to join our team as Family Educators. In this rewarding role you will provide in-home early intervention programming and family support services for children from birth to eight years of age who have moderate to significant developmental delays or who may be at risk due to family circumstances. Working collaboratively with families, you will build on their strengths, support their capacity to meet their child's developmental needs, and promote positive outcomes for children.
We are a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and funded by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. A pool of qualified applicants may be established for future vacancies.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess either:
- A university degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution; or
- A 2-year diploma in Early Childhood Education or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution, combined with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of:
- Early childhood growth and development;
- Infant and preschool development;
- Developmental delays and disabilities;
- Family-centered practice; and
- Child and family support services.
Essential Competencies
Pedagogical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of early childhood development and current research related to brain development, emotional resilience, self-regulation, attachment, and relationships.
- Commitment to ongoing professional learning in areas such as speech and language development, infant mental health, trauma-informed practice, and developmental disabilities.
Observation and Assessment Skills
- Ability to observe, document, and analyze child development and family interactions.
- Ability to connect observations to developmental theory and identify when additional assessment or support may be beneficial.
- Confidence discussing developmental concerns with families in a respectful and supportive manner.
Communication and Relationship Building
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with children, families, colleagues, and community partners.
- Professional, objective, and strength-based documentation practices.
Family Support and Coaching
- Ability to nurture, guide, and support children and caregivers.
- Capacity to model effective teaching, caregiving, and parenting strategies.
- Strong reflective and active listening skills.
Collaboration and Professional Practice
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Experience collaborating with community partners and stakeholders, including Social Development.
Working Conditions
- Hours of work are primarily Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Regular travel throughout the school district is required.
- Candidates must possess a valid Driver's Licence and have access to a reliable vehicle.
