Assistant Director of Care- Rosecrest Communities
Under the direction or supervision of the Director of Care, the Assistant Director of Care is responsible for creating a human habitat and providing care and services to meet the needs of the elders in the cottages. The Assistant Director of Care is committed to alleviating the three plagues of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom through facilitating small, unexpected pleasures in the day to day life of the residents, and by surrendering institutional routines. This is based on the established policies and procedures, Philosophy, Mission, Vision & Values of Rosecrest Communities and the Eden Alternative TM. The RN works cooperatively and respectfully with residents, coworkers, families, visitors and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment in our community.
Position Description
Leadership
- · DOC liaison
- · Supervise CCA's and Licensed Practical Nurses including coordination and delegation of duties.
- · Supervises staff and participates in welcoming, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution
- · Assumes senior emergency leader role; coordinates emergency situations and ensures that appropriate action is taken and documentation occurs.
Clinical
- · Supervises and/or administers medications and treatments
- · Assess the initial and ongoing health status and quality of life of residents.
- · Participate in the delivery of resident care and service.
- ·Communicate pertinent information to team members.
- ·Maintain complete and accurate clinical records; ensure resident care plans are current.
- Collaborate with families, physicians, community and professional agencies.
- Facilitate resident care conferences.
- Organize the moving in, transfers and moving out of residents with the resident care team members.
Performance Requirements
Standards/Scope of practice
- Adheres to Standards of Nursing Practice, Code of Ethics, Registered Nurses Act and Regulations, and other provincial legislation

- Actively participates in quality initiatives including but not limited to; monitoring, data collection, planning and evaluating.

- Ensure safe operation and maintenance of equipment
Emergency Planning
- Know and adhere to Fire, Emergency & Security policies and procedures
Communication
- Use a positive and respectful tone of voice when conversing with residents, families and staff.
- Proficient in verbal, written and electronic forms of communication.
Creating a Human Habitat
- Maintain safety of the resident environment
- Organize resident environment to accommodate personal choice and independence.
- Actively participate in Resident committees or programs
Education
- Attend and actively participate in educational and mandatory programs in order to increase personal knowledge and abilities.
Other Related Duties
- Other related duties may be required to fulfill our commitment to providing a "human habitat"
Qualifications
·Registered and in good standing with The Nova Scotia College of Nurses
Preferred experience with geriatrics
Preferred Alzheimer's Course
Preferred Eden Associate Training
Preferred PIECES Training
Current First Aid & CPR certification
Clear criminal records check
Hours of Work
Rosecrest Communities provides service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Hours of work will reflect operational requirements with the goal of providing safe Resident care.
