The INNOV Network of the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) is made up of interconnected centres of expertise located in Bathurst (Advanced Manufacturing), Caraquet (Advanced Materials) and Grand-Sault (Agriculture-Bioprocesses-Brews-Environment), with over 30 full-time staff to meet the provincial and regional needs of businesses and communities for applied research, technical support, specialized training and information dissemination. Réseau INNOV is looking for a dynamic person to fill the position of technologist in composite materials processing. This person will join a very active multidisciplinary team whose expertise, proven, is advantageously recognized in several community/industrial sectors and government agencies active in scientific/socio-economic development.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The person to be selected for this position reports to the senior project manager in the advanced materials division. It will support a team of experts who provide applied research, technical assistance, specialized training, and information dissemination services to manufacturing companies in Atlantic Canada. It will perform the following tasks, among others:

  • Actively contribute to client and/or project lead problem-solving discussions.
  • Design, manufacture and repair of molds, tooling, and composite parts.
  • Make prototypes with closed and open moulds.
  • Program and operate composite manufacturing systems.
  • Contribute to the development of methodologies and processes/products by iteration cycle based on continuous improvement.
  • Calibrate, operate, and maintain various equipment used in the laboratory and workshop.
  • Participate in the collection, compilation, analysis and interpretation of technical tests and applied research.
  • Write reports (test protocols, observation reports, results reports, etc.).
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment while respecting safety protocols.
  • Store, manage and dispose of chemicals and other substances.
  • Monitor quality standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The person must have a college degree in mechanical engineering technology or related field, or a composite professional degree, and at least three (3) years of relevant manufacturing experience. Some basic knowledge is required:

  • Experience in mould making.
  • Knowledge of specific resins and activators.
  • Experience in composite materials shaping processes (contact molding, vacuum infusion, resin transfer molding, etc.).
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and key engineering IT tools.
  • Knowledge of good practices for evaluation and measurement in the workshop/laboratory.

While certain skills/knowledge/experience/abilities are an asset:

  • Technical skills in maintenance, adjustment, programming, and use of advanced equipment.
  • Experience in research and development.

The person selected must be prepared to travel, occasionally, in the province or elsewhere in the country for periods of 2 to 4 consecutive days.

Must be a Canadian resident or hold a valid work permit in New Brunswick.

Other important skills: Knowledge of spoken and written English and French is essential. Good people skills, writing and communication skills to work in a fast-moving environment. It must be autonomous, productive, and willing to meet the challenges of establishing a collegial structure dedicated to supporting companies and organizations in innovation through applied research, technical support, training, and information. The person chosen will be prepared to move around the province and work on irregular schedules. Ability to work confidentially with little supervision; Ability to manage time well; Attention to detail and ability to prioritize and be versatile; Ability to take initiatives; Ability to work under pressure; Be able to manage multiple folders/requests simultaneously. Have a good history of performance and attendance.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.

Status: Full-time term position starting as soon as possible and ending on June 30, 2027. This contract is renewable.
Salary: Salary range 04 - executive and non-union staff (from $57,616 to $80,574 annually, depending on experience)
