POSITION: Long Term Care Assistant (LTCA)
LOCATION: Yarmouth, NS

POSITION SCOPE:
The Meadows is seeking to hire several temporary LTCA who work under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator. The LTCA's main tasks is to assist Nursing with daily tasks that support the residents in their day to day lives, These tasks do not include personal care but includes tasks such as assisting residents to walk eat, maintain a tidy room, socialization, administrative duties, and other activities such as stocking cupboards, providing CCA/PCW's with linens and clean up, etc. This LTCA's tasks vary on a regular basis and may be required to assist with Covid protocols when needed. The LTCA may be expected to assist in other departments such as Recreation if operationally required. The LTCA will act in accordance with the Mission Statement, Standards, Policies and Procedures of Tidal View Manor (The Meadows). The LTCA contributes to continued quality improvement and supports all aspects of the Care Team in the safety and well-being of residents. Hourly wage ranges from $19.1651 to $19.9207. The position requires the successful candidate to be available for days, weekends, possibly evenings, holidays and call-ins. While our mask and Covid vaccination mandates have been lifted, you may be required to wear a mask for the duration of a shift in the event of an outbreak. We also encourage our Care Team members to be vaccinated against the Covid and Flu viruses.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven ability to relate well to the elderly population, demonstrating a caring nature and sensitivity to their emotional, physical, spiritual, intellectual and social needs.
- Grade XII (or acceptable combination of education and experience).
- Previous work experience in a health care environment is considered an asset.
- Ability to hold in confidence all matters pertaining to residents, staff, co-workers and the organization.
- Strong communication skills; demonstrated ability to follow written and oral instructions; able to work effectively within a team and independently.
- Strong customer service skillset
- Ability to use sound judgment and initiative to solve problems; ability to follow established procedures without constant supervision.
- Physically able to perform job duties including highly active and physical nature of position; moderate lifting, pushing wheelchairs; and the ability to withstand the demands of lifting, reaching, standing and walking for majority of the workday.
- Well organized, resourceful with demonstrated ability to time manage and set priorities.
- Intermediary reading and writing,
- Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance; flexible to work all shifts and non-standard hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- For casual position, ability to work at short notice
- Positive attitude.
