Location: LTC Sites - Rural Avalon (Harbour Lodge Nursing Home, Interfaith Citizens Home, Lions Manor Nursing Home, Pentecostal Senior Citizen's Home)

Friendly Visiting volunteers provide social interaction and friendly support to residents. Duties of the friendly visiting volunteer may include:
" Spending time with residents and keeping them company
" Offering to run errands for residents, providing reading materials and/or food/beverages (upon request and in consultation with nursing staff)
" Escorting the resident(s) outside (on the grounds) if desired, going for walks, help with writing letters, playing board games, reading to them, etc.
" Engaging in activities meaningful to both the resident and the volunteer

Friendly visitors are needed at the following Rural Avalon Long Term Care sites:
" Harbour Lodge Nursing Home
" Interfaith Citizens Home
" Lions Manor Nursing Home
" Pentecostal Senior Citizen's Home

Your time and commitment is valuable to us. Friendly visiting volunteers are often needed during the afternoon on weekdays and weekends. Any time you can contribute is appreciated. Discuss your interest and availability with the Volunteer Coordinator.

Friendly visiting volunteers should have effective and courteous verbal and non-verbal communication skills; be self-motivated and have a willingness and ability to work independently and as a team player; a willingness and ability to follow directions (i.e. from nursing staff, residents and their families); and be comfortable and confident interacting in a busy health care environment and in new social situations.
