Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a Production Controller.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The primary language of work is English. Qualifications:

  • Education: Recognized Diploma in technical discipline (Engineering, Engineering Technology/Technician or similar) or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience: 2 years of Shipbuilding experience
  • Ability to employ critical thinking to solve complex problems and develop sustainable solutions
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage conflicts in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong time management skills

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Each Production Controller is assigned a group of Supervisors that they are responsible to provide work to support their crew and drive the schedule
  • Issue Job Packages to Production by accepting within AVEVA and submitting the Print request to Document Control
  • Order the material to support the Job Packages in Production working directly with the warehouse to meet scheduled material delivery dates; including, managing, splitting, and modifying material lists (DRL's) to ensure Production is only receiving what they can install
  • Create Plan of the Weeks for Supervisor to ensure they have the right work at the right time
  • Working directly with Area Managers and the Supervisors
  • Verify material availability and escalate with Supply Chain on priority material requirements
  • Perform initial review of replacement material requests (RMR's) to ensure the information is valid and no other stock holdings or alternate parts exist before Supply Chain purchases new
  • Manage suspended job packages to ensure work is continued when issues are resolved
  • Daily Production shopfloor walks to monitor work progression, material consumption, and upcoming available scope
  • Process deferred work between major stages of construction by pulling material & job package information, and holding the unit handover meeting
  • Participate in pre-build and after-build reviews
  • Ensure subcontractor job pack closures adhere to schedule and close within AVEVA
  • Participate in cross functional meetings with Production, Planning, Engineering, Subcontractors, Supply Chain, and the customer
