Drafter - Solidworks

A solid understanding of mechanical and machine drafting techniques and engineering terminology is required in this position as the Intermediate Designer/Drafter will prepare clear, complete, and accurate working plans and detailed drawings in support of the engineering team. Details will include all views and dimensions necessary for installation and fabrication. Producing work right the first time is key to our success.

Skilled Requirements:

• Strong 2D AutoCAD skills, knowledge of layer management, XREFs manipulation, etc.
• 3D Modelling with Solidworks.
• Develop and prepare engineering layout drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, specification sheets, and other data.
• Sound knowledge of CAD design and drafting techniques, engineering drawing, graphic arts, and reading of drawings.
• Familiarity with relevant Engineering department procedures and design standards.
• Skill in reading, interpreting, and using related documents and drawings prepared by others.
• Able to identify and report design-related issues to Project Lead and/or Project Engineer.
• On-site verification and measurement of layout drawings and machine dimensions.
• Able to collect and provide proper site measurements and information as required.
• Prepare drawings utilized for tender documents, ranging from mechanical or electrical equipment installations to custom equipment.
• Preparation of Process Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Understand the design process and other procedures relevant to the production of engineering documents.
• Ensure compliance with approved design standards in work to provide quality design.
• Participate in Design Review Meetings.
• Work as a productive member of a design team, cooperating with Improtech management in an effective manner to perform engineering work of high quality.
• Make every effort to complete assignments on time, on schedule, and according to budget.
• Treat all Improtech information and customer information in a confidential manner.
• Maintain and continually improve technical and professional abilities described above and required to perform assigned tasks. This may be done through reading and continuing education.
• Promptly inform Improtech management of any change in customer status or any information on customer business which may affect Improtech's relationship with the customer or with work in progress.

Desired Skills:

• Post-secondary Diploma or Degree in Design or Engineering.
• Minimum 3-5 years of drafting background and a strong proficiency in 2D AutoCAD and 3D Modelling in Solidworks.
• Ability to deal with multiple projects and conflicting deadlines.
• Strong written, verbal, mathematical, and interpersonal skills.
• Understand and efficiently use Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, and AutoCAD.
• 3-5 years of previous drafting experience inclusive of responsibilities included in the Job Summary.
• Experience working on multi-discipline projects.
• General knowledge/understanding of all related engineering fields.
