Job Description

We are seeking a Safety Manager to join our team in Toronto, ON. The Safety Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Safety program, safety training, and emergency response and ensuring the project management team stays aligned with safety requirements and have the opportunity to work on the Metrolinx Ontario Line Subway (OLS) Project. The project scope includes the design build, operations and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 16km of new alignment; 15 new stations and related works being performed by three key P3 Contractors and multiple advanced early works (EAW) packages Contractors. The PDT forms the key component of the overall leadership team, having delivery partner responsibilities supported by two other components, Technical Advisor (TA) and Program Controls Services Consultant (PCSC) Join us in this full-time permanent role and be a champion of diversity and inclusion.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct development and implementation of the Safety program, safety training, and emergency response
  • Ensure project management team stays aligned with safety requirements
  • In collaboration with the Integrated Project team, review, analyze and outline construction activities and work areas to ensure safe, efficient and consistent delivery
  • Be an effective leader, coach and mentor that supports a positive safety culture as well as continuous improvement of the Project Health and Safety management
  • Direct the activities of the project safety staff
  • Consult with and advise project team, construction contractors management on safety matters and interpretation of the OH&S Legislation
  • Administer the incident/ accident information management process including participation in serious accident/incident investigation meetings
  • Participate in safety field engagement activities as outlined in project plans
  • Participate in project management, construction management and HSE meetings as required
  • Assist the Environmental Safety and Health Director with other tasks as required.
Qualifications
  • 7-10 years experience in construction safety
  • Ability to clearly communicate with all levels of a project organization
  • Experience in railway safety, infrastructure and heavy civil
  • Experience with managing and coordinating construction contractors
  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario OHSA Act and Regulations with an enhanced level of knowledge and experience in construction requirements
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience in managing multitasks and multiple priorities within time frames
  • Ability to establish collaborative and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • NCSO or other designation is preferred.
