We're currently seeking a skilled and safety-focused Trailer Air Brake Mechanic for one of our valued clients. Job Summary:
The Trailer Air Brake Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining trailer air brake systems and related components. This role requires in-depth knowledge of trailer mechanics, especially air brake systems, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair air brake systems on trailers
- Perform regular maintenance and safety checks on trailers and braking components
- Replace or repair brake drums, shoes, valves, chambers, slack adjusters, and other parts
- Troubleshoot and resolve air system issues including leaks, malfunctions, and adjustments
- Ensure repairs are completed in compliance with DOT and company safety standards
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and parts used
- Collaborate with other mechanics and supervisors to prioritize repair schedules
- Keep work area clean, organized, and safe
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training preferred
- Minimum 4–5 years of hands-on experience working with trailer air brake systems
- Strong knowledge of trailer components and braking systems
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety standards
- Ability to operate power tools, diagnostic equipment, and lifting equipment safely
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and work in various weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in trailer repair or heavy-duty brake systems
- CDL license (not required but an asset)
- Welding or fabrication experience is a plus
