Position Summary

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Infrastructure & Unified Communications, the Director, IT Infrastructure will own the end-to-end management of Beanfield's internal technology infrastructure, including systems engineering, virtualization, cloud integrations, and end-user services.

This is more than just an operational leadership role. You'll be responsible for designing and executing our infrastructure roadmap, driving innovation in containerization and hybrid-cloud solutions, and leading a talented team of engineers through transformational projects. From managing Linux-based systems to optimizing corporate applications and ensuring seamless support across all teams, you'll be critical to keeping Beanfield secure, scalable, and future-ready.

You'll be a key player in defining Beanfield's 5-year Technology Strategy, helping to align IT capabilities with broader business goals and enabling rapid, sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Infrastructure Planning

  • Develop and implement infrastructure strategy in collaboration with the Systems Engineering Team, defining standards across compute, storage, and virtualization platforms.
  • Lead the strategic direction for containerization technologies to support modern application deployment.
  • Partner with stakeholders to assess short- and long-term infrastructure needs across systems and cloud, ensuring alignment with Beanfield's goals.
  • Provide budgetary input for 5-year technology roadmaps, identifying major projects and future capability investments.
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions and prioritize infrastructure projects to ensure consistent, reliable delivery.

IT Systems & Infrastructure Operations

  • Oversee the design, deployment, and management of systems infrastructure, virtualization platforms, and associated OS/software environments.
  • Maintain detailed infrastructure documentation including configurations, DR plans, and service records to support continuity strategies.
  • Direct compliance audits for security, backups, and disaster recovery in line with company policies.
  • Monitor and report on system performance, conducting regular testing and root cause analysis to drive improvements.
  • Optimize infrastructure through scripting, automation, and configuration management.
  • Ensure infrastructure assets meet hardening and vulnerability standards.
  • Manage Linux and open-source systems (Redhat, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux) and enterprise applications like Kea DHCP, Bind, KVM, VMware, and Proxmox.
  • Provide database oversight (PostgreSQL and others) to ensure integrity and performance.
  • Manage containerization/orchestration using Podman, Docker, and Kubernetes.

Resource & Financial Management

  • Oversee technology evaluation and procurement, ensuring scalable and cost-effective infrastructure solutions.
  • Lead budget planning and financial oversight for the Systems Engineering function.
  • Conduct ROI and cost-benefit analyses for proposed technology initiatives.
  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and performance evaluations.
  • Lead hiring, training, and development efforts for the infrastructure team, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Optimize resource allocation and portfolio management to ensure project efficiency and financial responsibility.

End-User Services

  • Provide strategic leadership for IT Service Desk operations, ensuring effective support for all corporate and remote teams.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of end-user hardware, including procurement, deployment, and decommissioning.
  • Ensure effective IT resource allocation and planning to meet nationwide demands.
  • Oversee IT policy compliance, MDM solutions, and SOC 2 Type II-aligned risk mitigation strategies.
  • Promote user education through knowledge base content, documentation, and training resources to increase user autonomy and satisfaction.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (required)
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure and systems engineering
  • Extensive experience in Linux environments and hybrid-cloud infrastructure
  • Proven leadership in cross-functional teams and geographically distributed environments
  • Deep familiarity with ITIL frameworks and enterprise IT operations
  • Strong ability to influence, strategize, and communicate with senior stakeholders

Technical Skills

Must-Have:

  • Linux Enterprise (Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS/AlmaLinux)
  • Virtualization (VMware, Proxmox, KVM)
  • Containerization (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes)
  • Monitoring (LibreNMS, Nagios)
  • Backup Solutions (Rubrik, Veeam)
  • Hybrid Cloud (AWS, Azure)

Strongly Preferred:

  • Windows Server and AD management
  • PostgreSQL and enterprise-grade databases
  • Experience supporting open-source infrastructure apps
  • ITIL v4 certification
  • Experience with MDM tools and device fleet management
