Operations Finance Manager
Salary Range: $130,000 - $140,000
Location: Vancouver, BC - Hybrid work schedule

As the Operations Finance Manager, you will be responsible for leading, managing, and supporting a team of Operations accountants while overseeing all financial aspects of the Pellet Operations team in Canada. In collaboration with the Pellet Operations leadership team, you will work to challenge and achieve their objectives, all while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of reporting and analysis of actual performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of three senior accountants and four operations accountants, overseeing all financial aspects of the Operations team under the direction of the Operations Controller or Director of Finance (Canada).
  • Provide financial insights and analysis for Canada operations
  • Collaborate with the Operations leadership team to deliver financial reports and analysis on the performance of our ten pellet plant sites.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including the Operations leadership team, Operations Controller, Director of Finance, and members of the Canada and US finance teams.

About you You'll possess the following skills, abilities, and experience:

  • Qualified accountant (CPA preferred) with 8+ years of experience in manufacturing or business environments.
  • Expertise in financial accounting, reporting, cash forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Strong communication skills for engagement with senior stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in team management and development.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to integrate financial data quickly for effective management decisions.
  • Excellent negotiation, organizational skills, and professionalism.
  • Motivated self-starter with strong networking capabilities.
  • Highly numerate with strong analytical skills for complex financial models.
  • Detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy in calculations and analyses.
  • Capable of meeting deadlines and adapting to changing business needs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Background in implementing and improving finance systems and processes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee month-end close procedures for the Operations Finance team, ensuring accurate reporting for six pellet plants and four partnerships.
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliations, focusing on finished goods, spare parts, and accruals.
  • Drive process improvements for financial controls and deliver timely internal reporting.
  • Serve as the primary contact for GMs, plant managers, and the VP of Operations, assisting with inquiries and achieving financial objectives.
  • Ensure key deliverables, like the weekly cost tracker, are met, while maintaining accounting policies and seeking efficiency enhancements.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to the finance team, stay updated on accounting standards, and contribute to Business Plan objectives.
  • Challenge decisions to maximize value for Drax and oversee audits, supporting plants throughout the process.
  • Assist the FP&A team in budget and forecast preparation.
